My first thought as well -- would be interesting to see the C919 flown on more western routes.

I feel like there is a specific issue with the methodology of this and various other basic income experiments: it was time-limited. If one goes into the experiment knowing that the basic income will end after N years, I suspect that may sig

I loved the "brushed metal" look in 10.3, I remember trying to install various mods to force "brushed metal" onto more applications. You can't really tell from the static screenshots, but Apple put a lot of effort i

IIRC, several sites actually got fined early on for using unobtrusive cookie pop ups, as it was ruled that people weren’t likely to notice them and therefore they didn’t count as “consent”.

I think if you go too far down this path you end up with a tool that’s utterly incomprehensible to the majority of your user base. Layers may be simplistic, but they’re relatively easy to understand.

The thing that always irritated me about GIMP is that any functionality gaps between it and Photoshop would always be summarily dismissed as “oh no, you’re just used to Photoshop ”. It looks like it may have been fixed now, but I distinctl

I'd love to see retro styles make a comeback for other industrial designs too. Wouldn't it be cool to have a transparent iMac-style laptop with modern internals?

I mean, at least they allow sideloading at all, which is more than can be said for that other App Store ecosystem. Still hoping the EU will force Apple to allow sideloading on iPhones, but I’m not super optimistic.

I can’t comment on SwiftUI in particular, but I’ve found that a lot of things like this tend to break down in most other cross platform GUI frameworks, falling into a kind of uncanny valley, where the experience ends up being either: 1. Nat

This narrative of false equivalency is dangerous, IMO. WeChat has been proven to be a heavily monitored and censored network. Whatever security failings iMessage and WhatsApp have, they pale in comparison to what's in place for WeChat.

What you're forgetting is that Germany actually has functioning public transit, while the US doesn't. If you don't have a car, you're out of luck if the DMV is 10 miles away.

Undo Send was definitely a Gmail "labs" feature long before Inbox existed [1]. You're right about the other two though. Nudges are nice. Ridiculous, though, that a useless gimmick feature like smart reply made it in but not a

By “many”, Google meant exactly two. The snooze function, and an Archive icon that appears on hover. Of all the Inbox features to migrate, those were all we got. I was so disappointed when they dumped me back into what was essentially a leg

Agreed — Apple’s trying to project a high-minded motivation here, but their real motivation is likely to try and limit web technologies so that companies must still invest in native iOS apps and remain within their walled garden.

Indeed -- as far as I can tell the changes are not behavioral, only aesthetic. That said, they do look really nice, and are (IMO) some of the best-looking hover effects I've seen in years, so kudos to Apple on that! Microsoft can'

I think nonlinear electronic media (like a single news site) is an acceptable alternative. What I find particularly beneficial is that, even if one refreshes it too often, the content doesn’t change unless there is something actually new.
