Doesn't look like it. They have an API you could throw encrypted blobs at with a bit of work at least.

Just coming up to 100,000 flight hours with my 6. No real complaints, but quietly planning retirement to secondary mass storage. Picked up some surprisingly cheap Toshiba 5TB's for evaluation[1]. Did you notice anything in particular

If you're just pushing raw bytes down a socket, you can use sendfile(2) to direct cached data directly to the NIC without copying it to a private buffer first. This is a pretty big deal at 40Gbps, and Netflix have funded quite a bit o

BSD's have tcpdrop(8): If a connection to httpd(8) is causing congestion on a network link, one can drop the TCP session in charge: # sockstat -c | grep httpd www httpd 16525 3 tcp4 \ 192.168.5.41:80

I wrote a partial quicksort for Newzbin - once I saw how simple it was to add I was surprised it wasn't more widespread: https://github.com/Freaky/pqsort

There are still inputs that will make it go quadratic, that just obscures it slightly. A proper fix is to fall back on a different sort if it looks like quicksort is doing that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Introsort

Unfortunately S3QL uses MAC-then-encrypt[1], which is pretty strongly discouraged[2]. Very nice there's a detailed writeup on the details in the docs though, wish more projects did that. 1: http://www.rath.org/s3ql-doc

Tarsnap is fantastic, and I'd love to be able to use it more, but it's 25x more expensive than Glacier (not counting the whacky retrieval costs) and 10x more expensive than S3, so it's not really practical for bulk backups

Add OPTIONS_UNSET=gnome to /etc/make.conf, plus whatever other options you want excluded system-wide. Ditto OPTIONS_SET. You can override for specific ports with ${PORTNAME}_SET/_UNSET too.

End-to-end encryption means it's encrypted between the endpoints - any intermediate servers just see ciphertext and never have access to the key to decrypt it. SSL just encrypts the link to Google's servers - it should be basical

There's work ongoing on FreeBSD to add libxo support to tools in the base system, which will allow you to get (amongst others) JSON out of various commands: https://github.com/Juniper/libxo

Probably just more sensitive to vibration in long term use. 40% AFR in normal conditions would be insane, and I doubt we'd need Backblaze to point it out. I have six ST3000DM001's and seven ST31500341AS's, all with about 2

As an anecdotal data point, I see ECC corrections much, much more often than ZFS CKSUM errors. If you're in any way concerned about bitrot, ECC memory should be the first thing you go for regardless of your choice of filesystem.
