It's definitely a very technical challenge. I have learned a lot since I made the switch to 100 GbE. My website regularly needs to handle more than 100k connections per server, the bottlenecks become very apparent at that scale.

This is exactly what I needed for pixeldrain. I have been struggling with TCP bottlenecks for months. I can't wait for 6.8 to be released.

This happens all the time. I used to be able to play Rocket League natively on my Linux PC. Then Epic bought it and simply pressed delete on the Linux port.

I registered an eBay account to purchase some hardware for my business. Before I even had the time to enter payment details I got a message saying my account had been suspended. Support will not reinstate my account under any circumstances,

That's ridiculous bandwidth pricing. you can get unmetered gigabit at Hetzner for €20 per month. Need 2 Gb? Order a second server.

I'm working on one-time payments for pixeldrain. I don't want to lock people into a subscription either but that's just how Patreon works. I do like the financial security of monthly subscriptions though. Means you need to wo

Definitely! I really despise ads. I'm really happy this business model is working out. Even if only one in 200 people join the Patreon it's plenty to be profitable.

I bet ads were extremely profitable when Zippyshare started. The market has shifted from banner ads to video ads. As for me: I didn't know what the alternatives were when I started. The ad revenue was enough to bootstrap the growth cyc

I run https://pixeldrain.com . I have been seeing my ad revenue dry up over the last few years as well. Even though the site only grew more popular the ad revenue stayed low. At the start of this year I decided to try running th

I run https://pixeldrain.com . At the start of this year I completely removed all ads from my site. I'm done with checking ad network after ad network only to find out that they all pay the same: pennies. Pixeldrain now runs

I run pixeldrain.com which uses a lot of bandwidth. The website uses about 6 PB per month and I'm paying €3000 for that, so that's about €0.50 per TB

I think taxes are the biggest hurdle for microtransactions. You are legally required to report taxes in _every_ country where you have customers. This means that the customer will need to fill in address information for each website they wa

Bandwidth costs 10 times as much as storage, so I'm more concerned about that :-) If it becomes a problem I'll do something about it. The storage limit is a recent thing anyway. The site operated 6 years without any limit on stora

Hey Michael, good to hear from you here! I still have a Sia daemon running but it's not doing much. When the site still ran on Sia I had a lot of issues with the scalability of the Sia daemon. While it's still getting better, it&#

Views are unique per IP address (/48 subnet for IPv6) so continuously refreshing the page wouldn't work. I had problems like this in the past, but rate limiting mode seems to have solved it. I have had little abuse complaints in t

Do you mean the buttons for sharing files? Those are disabled until you have uploaded something. After uploading they become active and the contrast becomes much higher.

Scaling has been tricky. Finding a database system which can handle the load was the hardest part. A single Postgres instance buckled quite early on. Later I tried Cockroachdb but it also was not up for the task. Now I'm running Scylla

It's not really meant as cloud storage, but more as a catchnet to prevent abuse. If you're not paying for pixeldrain your files will always expire 30 days after the last time they're viewed. So even if someone uploads 500 GB
