I have my own headphone rule: If I can hear your headphones over my headphones, then your headphones are too loud.

I'm always sad when people treat open source as a dumping ground for abandoned/old/unprofitable projects. The rest of my sympathy went away when he misspelled 'substantial' and signed off with an all-caps 'GO TO HELL'. Classy. I'm probably

We've seen that before. It's better than the skin servers being down. Which they probably are.

Who? Bitly.com? Perhaps Libya is as reliable as anywhere else in the world - it's all a matter of perspective. Ask The Pirate Bay guys how confident they would be using a .com. Still, the idea of putting a service that offers 'permanence' o

Interesting choice to use a Libyan domain for a service like this.

I use Georgify, which only makes cosmetic tweaks but IMO makes HN much more pleasant to use. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/georgify/ofjfdfale...

Why does it have to be such a blatant steal of the Buffer design? Being 'inspired' to produce a similar (but open) service is a fairly noble goal, but slavishly imitating the UI is bad form, surely? You should have called it 'Blue Buffer'.

I don't really understand why he used ligatures (or why he called these web font icons 'Ligature Symbols'). Surely if you are going to be substituting letters for icons, you may as well use easily accessible, memorable and slightly semantic

Agreed, but a version that fell open almost instantly and swayed just for a moment would be very cool, and perhaps an improvement on the standard UI. I wonder what other subtle animations might be helpful?

To my surprise, Nielsen have (after a delay) published all comments AND fixed the graphic. > Update 7/16: The original graphic in this post included a chart depicting U.S. smartphone manufacturer share which did not scale proportionatel

24 hours later, and I think it's pretty clear that Nielsen aren't accepting any comments on that article.

Hm, one of us doesn't have a good grasp of what 'zero-sum game' means. In truth, it may be me, because you lost me there. I wasn't praising the headline because it was 'clever' though. I think the question it raised highlighted a bigger iss

This story used to be called 'Why is Nielsen misrepresenting smartphone market share?' I thought that was a brilliant headline, and it made me jump into the conversation here. I doubt the new title, 'Lying with pictures: Smartphone manufact

I found it odd that there were no comments on the original Nielsen blog post — http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/?p=32494 — so I left one politely pointing out the inaccuracies. It's being held in moderation. I doubt it'll ever see the

There's a lot about this Apple/EPEAT story that doesn't add up to me. I'd be fascinated to read some educated speculation as to what exactly happened, and why.

An expletive in the headline, followed by a pretentious Shakespeare quote. I stopped reading when he described Zuckerberg as 'an arrogant 28 year old man-child'. I don't like Facebook much, but I'm not siding with this guy.
