Obviously (Example: Zivver [1]). But that doesn't mean we have to make it worse. It means we need to tackle those risks. [1] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46262524

A lifetime subscription is 3x the yearly subscription. Significant, but used to be normal prices for buying an application license.

Sonoma won't receive updates for long any more. Better off switching to Sequoia. It'll give you 20 months to switch away, instead of 8 months.

I bought a license for Pixelmator Pro a couple of years ago. IIRC it cost 30 or 40 EUR. I don't use it much, but it is unlikely you're going to need all of that software.

In that case, may I suggest macOS Tahoe and i(Pad)OS 26? I hated that UI so much, I'm glad I barely had to use it (that it was slow was due to underperforming hardware, esp. laptops, for which it arguably wasn't meant to run on).

The URL and title give it away: URL starts with 'ai' and the title claims ' is ' and ' the new version control.' I then skimmed through the article, and it mentions it doesn't exist today. First, it requi

HyperNormalisation is one of many great documentaries by Adam Curtis, many of which are available on archive.org [1]. Specifically, I can recommend The Century of the Self and The Power of Nightmares . No need for YouTube :) FWIW, these

If I use fish, I want to make use of it, and that means I will want to convert scripts, or simply learn to write scripts compatible with fish. Shell scripts from third parties stick with whatever shell they were written for (ie. /bin&#

Learning by mistake isn't painful; it is how you learn best. I keep iterating on that point to my children. But that isn't merely what these guys were doing. They were doing more, since they were documenting their (expensive!) lea

I've been using fish for nearly 10 years. First, there are some ways to make fish more compatible with bash. If you want to do some shell scripting in fish, or running other people's shell scripts (or commands) this may aid you si

Fair. Well, I can't get my license to work, so I swapped to Fuse (which I also use on Windows). Works with sshfs, too. Though since I already use Wireguard, NFS should suffice.

Good point, I have to migrate that away and clean it up, but the main user is my wife, not me. I might completely get rid of Nextcloud. I mean, the name is tarnished for my wife.

I remember the path my license had: it was a free upgrade to Windows 10, from Windows 7 (right before they removed said free upgrade; I tend to be slow with adapter Windows versions). The original Windows 7 license was a pirated one, but th

Many laptops with Windows preinstalled came with all kind of bloatware to 'enhance' the user with software they 'need'. Desktops too, but with laptops (and smartphones) it is more noticeable due to battery.

When I replaced a motherboard (rest of the hw was OK) Microsoft was of the opinion I had a 'new computer' and would need to buy a new Windows 10 license (of IIRC 150 EUR → scoundrels). I went to G2A and bought one for 20 EUR. Then
