I definitely see these forces at work at my current gig. In our context the lines separating what should be domain-specific boundaries are blurry. The main system is a monolithic codebase which was developed with a "wild west architect

This is kind of a long story but the short version is that the tooling isn't yet able to differentiate between dependencies which are packaged and deployed with your application vs dependencies which are only used in the build process.

It seemed to me like the author was not actually a cofounder, he was an early hire working under a freelance contract who was retroactively named a "late-cofounder", whatever that means, once the whole thing started to go off the

Yeah I agree, assuming that everyone thinks the same way as academics is "echo chamber" thinking. "If I had access, I would read the literature, therefore they would also read the literature if they had access". The peop

Big +1 to this. My parents weren't abusive at all, they love me and have always done their best. But my relationship with my dad is extremely strained- it was a strange and painful realization that I wouldn't associate with him, a

Setting aside the ethical aspects which others have covered pretty thoroughly, they may have violated 18 U.S.C. §1030(a)(5) or (b). This law is infamously broad and intent is easier to "prove" than most people think, but #notalawy

1. I can't think of any other keyword in golang that comes from Latin. It's a dead language. 2. The meaning of null is well-understood by the CS community. The meaning of nil is not; it seems to be redefined by each language that

Including null in golang was a mistake, but that decision is a lot more defensible than the decision to call it nil. Seriously, can we just pick 1 name and stick to it?
