When you add a chunk of matter to a blob of matter, you increase the volume of the blob by one chunk. When you add a chunk of matter to a black hole, you increase the surface area of the black hole by one chunk. This is incredibly surpris

You get what you pay for. Freelancer, Guru, Upwork, and Toptal are the main sites. People in the West charge more because it costs more to survive. What is your project and budget? There's lots of skilled people here.

Leave it to the government to create massive inflation by giving billions of dollars to criminals while everyone else suffers. Imagine if a company did something so sloppy. Instead we're left paying the bill for the gross incompetence

What you need, more than anything, is the mental model the authors used when writing it. In a company you want to sit down with the people who wrote it. If it's open source you'll have to do the same if the API is undocumented. Ot

On Spotify, artists need 3.5 million streams per year to achieve the annual earnings for a full-time minimum-wage worker of $15,080. That is completely insane. Artists are getting robbed, man. Spotify is a $72 billion company. They need t

You're assuming technological development is linear. In reality, it can develop in an infinite number of directions. We existed naturally for 200,000 years and produced no more technology than a chimpanzee. It is only in very recent hi

I believe our genetic predisposition to invent and bring order to chaos was genetically engineered. It is our fixation as a species. I think the aliens have remote control ships that are hidden deep within the ocean. I think they use them t

Of course, consensus is often right. A bit tautological. It is right to the group that developed consensus. Scientific consensus is a special case because you're talking about a consensus of experts. I don't see how the general

A moss piglet can survive being cooled to absolute zero!? That's insane. Panspermia seems increasingly likely to me.

Wow, what a great article. One founder can be better than many. Sometimes people get in the way. Finding the right person can be as much work as the work itself.

That is beside the point. It's expected you will bring your best effort to the job and not do half-ass sloppy work. The article is not recommending you work 16 hour days, they are recommending you bite the hand that feeds.

Of course it's unethical, it's time theft. It requires you to be dishonest. You can make money as a con artist in many ways, this is just one of them. You can lie about your qualifications and experience too. If your only reservat

Sounds naive. Do you have any experience with real-world projects? We're nowhere close to just writing some glue code. Web APIs are moving in that direction but the software world is a vast ocean and APIs are just a drop in the bucket.
