Victoriametrics for metrics (7x ram reduction vs prom), Loki for logs but evaluating Victorialogs. Then grafana for ui. Cannot recommend vm enough, it’s fantastic.

There’s a good 5 part series on this from 2014: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7636066 . Fascinating how slow and brittle the system is. Even more so that it’s not been upgraded to something real-time (see:Europe).

Sounds like we should adopt this (the homebrew and apparently superior) system to the whole country and dump PLTRs spy stack.

I’m done with iOS, apples endless anti user/developer bullshit has pushed me over the edge. For my next phone I’ll be moving back to Android-ish something sans google components. The same process is happening to macOS too, but at least

Moved to wasabi from their s3-like b2 product because it was so utterly unreliable. Pretty wild list of things if true.

There’s a lot more to infra than the cloud, pyinfra is designed to work in any of these environments not just the over-abstracted, over-hyped cloud. There’s plenty of good tools for setting up the infra, any pyinfra can easily be integrated

OK it requires access to the pod network. Bad, but not that . Here’s the 9.8: https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/issues/131009

I once nuked the entire OS partition on an openvz host. Vz data was still good so we ended up copying the root fs from another similar box, manually updated the network config and it ran for another 4 years until retired.

When I was younger I used to dream of living/working in the US. Now I’m hesitant to even visit as a tourist, despite many trips as a child (which we absolutely loved). Not worth the risk.

Garry used to run/host the Facepunch forums which strongly remind me of better times on the web. They were good times.

We all knew it was coming. Real question is will people leave or roll over and accept it? I expect the latter. Maybe with federation it’s easier to move about but laziness seems to win every time sadly.

Ha! The first one is one of my favourite random images I’ve used as a test image for 10 years now carried between various laptops and PCs. Wonderful to see the full collection here.

This exactly highlights my fear of widespread use of LLMs for code - missing the actual optimisations because we’re stuck in a review, rather than create, mode of thinking. But maybe that’s a good thing for those of us not dependent on LLMs

We really need a competitor(s- ideally) to CF because it’s heavily centralising the internet and this highlights exactly why that is a problem.

Long time sublime user, always has autocomplete off as it’s more a distraction than use. Recently started using LSPs for the inline error/warning checking but avoid things like go to definition - search works just as well in my experie

Not (currently) worried. Lots of comments here about intellisense being a similar step up and I’ve had it disabled for years (I find it more a distraction than use). So far LLMs feel like a more capable - but more error prone - intellisense

It’s bullshit like this that makes me realise how lucky we are in countries that have public health care. Sure it has problems but private systems seem to have zero advantage for the average person. Pay more for less effectiveness AND a bun

Oh that’s neat (TIL), am also working on a HS that also does this [1]. Not only does it feel like the most correct (I don’t think there is a perfect) behaviour for the user but also makes implementation much simpler. Synapse has a LOT of or

We used to use this but prom is too memory heavy, ended up switching to mostly-compatible VictoriaMetrics[0] and reduced memory by a factor 7. In fact by every measurable metric VM outperforms prom/thanos (in our setup). [0] https:&#x
