Nah, USSR would just lock people up even without any proof of anything. But they certainly would've dreamed of it.

I think you have liters and gallons backwards, unless the British gallon had shrank significantly with the Brexit.

Just as I was going to say that... Although I think that plot aside, Metropolis has far more artistic merit than Avatar (or anything Cameron ever made, makes, or will make).

Maybe because it is a) wrong about Stalin, and b) Staling killed far more people than Hitler, Churchill, and Ted Bundy combined?

Saying that Tesla has best user interface seems to be a bit too strong... Touchscreen controls pretty much suck compared to just about any other alternatives.

What GP mentions might really be just an echo of an even earlier times (60's, maybe 70's) when caviar was pretty much the cheapest thing to be served in booze bars (USSR didn't really care much about actually protecting the f

While this is a prime case of what Russians call "Toad screwing a viper", it could be that just in this case, despite all his grandstanding, Bezos comes across as slightly more sympathetic than AMI. Just because he is, by all indi

It well might have been. I was beta-testing it the North American publisher (and got it for free, although they made quite a bit off me on Calamus SL and plugins for Atari TT030 I had before), even for a while after they sold to... Roxio wa

There was also for a while a native Windows NT version of Calamus (they even had Alpha et al versions, if I remember correctly) that was quite good; I used it to make money for quite a long time, and although by now I guess there must be s

There are some very good cheese makers in the States (e.g. Prairie Fruit). But of course they have enough decency not to call their stuff "Parmesan" when it isn't.

Doesn't really matter all that much if it is SV proper, or Silicon Alley, or Silicon Prairie, or any of the other areas where well-paid tech workers can afford to live without cars, look down on those who can't, and propose what c

It's a non-answer, and in any case these people never were relocated "out of" cities. They never lived there, and don't want to.

Must be nice living in that SV bubble. How about we make it income-tested, and charge everyone who supports that idea, say, $10/mile and up? Even if you want to go on a road trip in a rental. Or get your kid to a hospital. At least tha

And how do you propose to relocate all of these people to live in that urban paradise of yours, where they walk to anything and everything? Are you even going to ask them if they want to? Not everybody wants to live in a big city and valu

People with money use transit in NY or Chicago, too, because it works (more or less) and is sufficiently convenient. But in both places you can use transit to get reasonably close to where you're going. When I lived in SV, it was theor

Last time I got A4 as a loaner, it had ACC and lane assist, which does pretty much everything "autopilot" does, but without trying to kill you. Changing oil in an Audi, past a free service period, adds up, though.
