I wish people would hunt bullfrogs up here in the Pacific Northwest - they are a terrible bane to our riparian ecosystems as they eat everything that lives in a wetland (except the larger mammals). And, as the article mentions, their appe

In the United States most (all?) cities have local ordinances regulating lawn height. For example, in Portland, Oregon “lawn areas” can be no more than 10 inches high[1]. Mind you, this is just for the city and only applies to lawns, not ga

Seconded. Their latex mattresses are amazing if you are looking for a firm mattress, and priced significantly cheaper than anything else on the market. I have owned two over the last 14 years and both have been amazing: assisted in easing b

I can relate to the notion of 'deep work' benefiting from solitude. I think I am odd in that I love company and have lots of friends due to growing up where I live, but I spend very little time with them. This became a conscience

The nearest thing I can think of for adults is Toastmasters. It is non-adversarial though, so very different from debate in that regard, as it is focused on developing public speaking skills. http://www.toastmasters.org/

I see quite of it here in Portland, Oregon as well. Certianly more “those people” are a problem posts than I would expect. There is definitely a lot more ire directed at the homeless, but the (apparent) insularity of NextDoor appears to enc

The Economist just had a great article about the process of moving a poor country up the ladder, focusing on Bangladesh. I thought it was a good read, and it touches on the roll of textile manufacturing and the related infrastructure that h
