I think the tide is turning on this one. The overall feeling definitely seems to be shifting away from positivity about cryptocurrencies. It's a slow change (naturally) but noticeable.

For accountability: DMCA claims require a sworn statement under penalty of perjury. The fact that it's a crime is a deterrent. Unfortunately YouTube's Content ID system does not actually deal with DMCA claims directly and so false

As a daily NJ Transit commuter... I'm very grateful to have easy access to one of the few commuter heavy rail systems in the country. I live in the suburbs and rail is so much nicer (and safer) than driving.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but: Let's Encrypt. Ever going to roll it out? I plan to switch away from Namecheap soon unless it's implemented, it's really disappointing to me.

Nuclear waste storage is a political problem, not a technical one. The Yucca Mountain project is the long term storage option. It's isn't really that hard, relatively speaking, to dispose of nuclear waste. Just put it in a hole

It is obscenely disingenuous, almost fraud, to put "USD" in the name of the coin. That's not what it is. The ability to convert to/from the coin is entirely based on the good graces of the issuer, and any regulators in t

Too many counterfeits. The solution is basically what Apple did: put MFi chips in everything to ensure the valuable hardware isn't damaged, and lock down who can get the chips. Obviously this is very difficult for a standards body.

I love the concept of Fairphone but I can't believe they're still selling their phone for €530. It's worth maybe 1/5th that, if that. Is it just hubris? I hope not, because even if their phones command a reasonable price

That's a technique called splicing, specifically it refers to "splicing" two videos in the middle, in this case one with real input and one faked. It is surprisingly possible (and often easy) to detect splices based on minute

I switched my assistant app to Cortana, if you can believe that. It works well enough, and doesn't require every permission to be enabled. It'll work fine with whatever you give it. (Within reason. It can't give you informati
