I'm fine with abolishing almost all those regulations - they are a huge barrier to entry, and they serve very little public good. However, hotel rooms are highly taxed, while most AirBNB rooms are not - apartment rents are often rente

Is this even a discussion? Anyone serious about analyzing data will use either R, Python (with Pandas/SciPy, etc), or Julia. For truly immense data sets that require pipelines, you'll use tools like spark, hadoop, etc - but SAS

That blog post is exactly the reason why people automatically assume anything coming out from someone who identifies as an 'advertising expert' is instantly dismissed. Lots of words without actually addressing a single point from

From a distance, C# looks like an incredibly awesome language, but the way it's tied so closely to Visual Studio and Windows really crimps its growth. I love it's syntax, the libraries look great, and apparently the performance is

It's worth doing both. Sometimes someone is doing something which is really stupid, and the solution is 'stop doing it'. Being constructive is important, but being realistic is even more important.

Fantastic effort, I'll play around with it as much as I can. I am not exactly a coffee script expert, but I might poke around internals.

I doubt ESR was genuinely interested in changing GCC policy - that seems to be like a well written piece of concern trolling. If you want to make suggestions, you discuss it politely with the stakeholders, you don't make intentionally

This is way to simple a model for that - it's a very nice toy model, which is useful to get a quick intuition, but you cannot just add pieces to it and hope to get meaningful results.

There is no need to strawman the article. You can be a huge advocate for technology, while still be concerned about the poisonous effects that winner-takes-all dynamics can have on societies.

There is a similar statement by Higgs (the guy who won the Nobel prize for physics for the discovery of the boson named after him) about how the insane pressure to constantly publish and produce papers comes at the expense of being able to

Yeah, that's what I got too. On a more substantive note, it's actually absolutely amazing what Feynmann managed to pull off using 'just' calculus. Especially if you read the Feynmann lectures, when it comes to integrals

I understand this, but couldn't you simply wrap print itself in a function, and do that in Python 2.7 already? Granted, your method saves you one line and it's more 'natural'.

Excellent attitude, and good luck. Honestly, when the ratio of 'business people' to technical people in a start up is that high, that raises all sorts of red flags to me.

Excellent. For sparse storage, do you use Scipy Sparse, or you have your own custom built solution? I know continuum was working on a version of memmapped numpy (blaze, iirc) arrays which looked really interesting.
