Hospitals are now at the point of being overwhelmed in several hotspots, particularly in Texas. You're just flat at wrong on every aspect of your comment.

There's the exact same opportunity for learning when it comes to politics. The difference in discourse on HN is ostensibly the content, but we all know the thing that really separates this from other forums is the quality of the discus

> The death toll from COVID lockdown is so much higher - from excess suicides, poverty, crime and violence That's the same false dichotomy we've been hearing since the pandemic began.

I'm in the exact same boat. I know there are differences between excel and calc, but none of them affect my daily usage - which to be fair is about 60-70% using it ass a glorified CSV editor.

I'm sure the parent knows the meaning of the word, but was asking as more of a philosophical exercise. But funny enough, your example is still describing extrinsic value. Tools don't have intrinsic value. They're valuable bec

It's a false dichotomy rooted in isolationism and justified by xenophobia. It takes care of Americans in name only.

And I completely agree with all of that. That doesn't change the fact that "the government wouldn't defraud you" is a horrific argument. And that is one of his points.

That's not the point though. If Aldrin's implicit argument is the US government would never try and defraud its citizen, then any example of such a fraud disproves him.

Yes, but the parent didn't imply that the two necessarily correlate. All you showed was that developing countries can have a high GDP. Are there any countries considered first world that have a low GDP?

Some of that is a productive of the fact that the justice system is run by humans doing human things. But part of that is the design of our system in that it's designed to protect wealth.

Assuming this all took place in the US, the American justice system is pretty horrific. I wouldn't want to call the cops on anyone unless it was absolutely necessary. It's not an action to take lightly.
