In my mind there was this exponential explosion in sugar since the 70s It was probably not so exponential, it's more like an increased intake of everything. ERS data show that on average, US adults consumed 363 more calories per day

Just a thought. As you yourself say, we know only of one planet with life. However, looks like life only arise once on this planet. If life is so abundant in the Universe, why wouldn't it at least arise several times independently on t

Resilience is probably not that closely linked to the probability of arising. Maybe once it exists, it is resilient, but when it is absent, chances of it arising are still very low.

Do you think you're disagreeing with me somehow? Probably. I think the following is still controversial: My read on the current situation is that the evidence strongly indicates that sugar is a major problem There are multiple poss

the root cause of dietary issues is excessive fat in the diet, not sugar. Anything excessive in the diet will lead to gaining weight and eventually to obesity. I can not say which will lead to diabetes faster, consuming extra 1000 calorie

Adding random citations to straw man arguments proves nothing. Did we even read the same articles? Here are some examples I picked up in five minutes that look like completely reasonable referencing to me. Anyone with an Internet connect

To be fair BMI is not perfect. All your gym rats get lumped in Obese for example. Not really. To get to obese by gaining muscle mass one would most certainly have to use certain illegal drugs.

This review draws from 204 studies, 20 of which you have cherrypicked one-line statements from. There are more studies. How many would be an "enough" number to convince you that it is not trivial to achieve optimal health on com

It seems easy to tell the negative effects of eating meat (might cause cancer, etc). It's absolutely not easy. For example, there is still no conclusive evidence on meat causing cancer. There is no mechanism - there are no carcinogen

The China Study[1] is a really good book that contains a lot of research about the effect on chronic disease a vegan diet has. I found it very interesting. Did you read any of the critisism though? Here are some http://www.chol

Hunting animals for food is core to what we as humans evolved to be. The way we sweat, walk, stand, etc. all seem to have evolved to be an endurance hunter. Clearly, our evolution favored those who hunt and eat meat. This is a great point
