It's a nice article and the animations are functional and aesthetically pleasing. I used to teach this on a whiteboard at my local community college. This is much slicker (and involves a lot less scribbling and erasing). Spanning tree

Anecdote: During the pandemic I added washing my hands every time I get back to my office building (and specifically after interacting with surfaces the public interacts with) to my usual hand washing (after bathrooms and before eating, jus

For me it's not the cost that bugs me when I don't have a part, but rather the disruption to my flow. If I can't get a project done all at once I'm much less likely to ever get it done.

I have a soft spot for the V20. The laptop I carried in high school was V20-based (a NEC Ultralite PC1701). I remember a CGA 3D billiards game I played on both the laptop and an XT clone desktop. The V20 was definitely faster for that game.

It's really neat that many of the comments in the 6502 version[0] match this 8080 version. I've only done a quick review but there's a lot of duplication. It's interesting to see how the 6502 version reflects its direct

I've been doing grayscale for about a year now. Sadly, I've discovered most of my wasted time is spent reading, which works fine in grayscale.

The company I work for requiring device-bound passkeys is the least of my concern. Once the idea of device-bound passkeys being "more secure" gets into the public consciousness as being "more secure" it'll be like t

When I was about 12 or 13 I recovered an old reel-to-reel recorder from the trash that had a magic eye tube on it (acting as a recording level meter). The mechanism was broken so it couldn't play or record tapes, but the magic eye work

I haven't thought of Number Nine in years, but the mention reminded me that the BIOS on some of their cards displayed a Beatles lyric quote during boot.

I did work for a small community college back in the 90s that had expanded their building multiple times since the 70s. The electrical potential between different parts of the building was significant enough to make wired Ethernet unreliabl

An install of Windows 11 from MSFT-provided media on an HP desktop PC earlier this year resulted in a ton of HP driver-related crapware on the PC. Windows Update will happily download drivers and user-mode software the driver manufacturer f

I always assumed the "enslaved animal-free" future would be something that came on gradually, likely motivated by economics (i.e. lab-grown meat becoming cheaper and higher quality than farmed, robotic pets being cheaper and more
