This is not the case for any modern chat app. When you send a message to someone, it isn't delivered peer to peer straight to your recipient. The message goes from you to the service provider's server from where delivery is attemp

I worked for a major open-source company for half a decade. Everyone thinks their contribution is a gift and you should be grateful. To quote Bo Burnham, "you think your dick is a gift, I promise it's not".

When people spend their entire careers in AWS land, it's easy to forget just how much power a single beefy bare metal server brings to bear. You can scale far and wide simply by getting a bigger server.

Hospitals expand because they either already don't or they project they won't meet demand. It's the same story with drive-thrus. These are things that are measured and analyzed. Adding features in the blind hope that more fea

I'm not really sure this argument makes sense. Plenty of software I've built is finished, it does the thing I need it to do and I haven't touched it in years. Adding features just because is not a useful way to spend anyone&#

This is true, yet I've seen plenty of poorly built webapps that manage to run slowly even on a top tier development machine. Never mind what all the regular users will get in that case.

Modern MacBooks models have rounded corners at the top right and top left corners of the screen, see [0]. The bottom corners don't do this and external displays don't do this. This is a stylistic choice to match the curvature of t

This type of thinking is flawed. Me buying a new EV does not take my old ICE out of circulation, it just puts it in the hands of someone else. Buying less, whether that's cars or anything else, is the baseline to aim for.

While buying an EV is a greener choice than buying an ICE, a better option still is to use the vehicle you already have for as long as reasonable. This also overlooks the fact that EVs are prohibitively expensive for the vast majority of th

I don't think this is a charitable interpretation. As a business, you need to be able to backfill positions or hire more when the need arises. If you use a language that's very commonly used, it's a lot easier to hire. There

I wish there was a feature flag to make sites ask for permission to play sound similar to how they have to ask for location, notifications and so on. Then I could easily turn off sound everywhere and only enable it for a few select sites.
