I was under the impression that Windows 10 is quite decent except for the specific issues I mentioned. As for BeOS I really liked it. It was very stable and fast if the hardware you had was supported[1]. It had great multi-CPU support, came

I am currently on a Mac but I have been switching between Mac, Windows, UNIX, and BeOS since 1991. I generally find things to like in all of them. But what Microsoft has done with mandatory updates and forced telemetry is unacceptable to me

I was hoping that clicking on the tiny version would go back to the previous one, but no such luck.

This here is indeed the real problem - corporations who are so unethical that they would damage the entire world in order to make some cash. These are the people who Trump wants to set free of all regulation.

I installed Minix 3 the other day in VMWare Fusion virtual machine. It felt a lot like running NetBSD due to the userland reason you mentioned. The one oddity I noticed in my brief testing was that the Minix DHCP client doesn't allow f

I don't like bloat in web browsers because, often, if just adds features best left as an add-on. Also, in something as important as a web browser, I feel a smaller codebase is wise from a security point-of-view.

"If it's released under and open source license, then I'll be glad to have it integrated." Not me. I don't want a bloated Firefox; even if the bloat is well intentioned and fully open sourced.

That's interesting. I am surprised I didn't see the mention of this last year.

I agree. Also, I have to admit to liking this because of the way Cloudflare has treated Tor users. Feels like karma.

I think doing that is kind of insane but I love that she is doing it. Also, as an OS geek, I enjoy reading about the setups of other geeks.

It is my opinion that no one should accept an automated DMCA notice. Without human review, how can one attest to anything, especially since it is possible that fair use might apply.

For the same reason that lossless is not the default - most people can't hear the difference.

Sites like the OS2 Museum makes me really frustrated that companies don't make their old operating system software freely available for download. I feel like there is a lot of lost history due to this.

This is bullshit. The U.S. should be required to treat its citizens in a constitutional manner regardless of where they are located.

To me, this is incredibly perverse: no one should be forced to assist the government in their own prosecution.

I don't trust fingerprint unlocks. The recent incident where a child bypassed security using the finger of her sleeping mother was proof enough for me.

I really like Nanosaur II and it still runs on OS X (at least it did in 2014). I installed it on my 2013 Macbook Air and it caused the fan to come on full blast.

I don't see Apple buying them now, not after buying Beats Music and transforming it into Apple Music. And considering that Amazon, Google, and Microsoft all have their own streaming services, I don't see anywhere for Spotify to go

Look at what can be accomplished with some fear-mongering and millions of apathetic citizens. The intelligence community must be so proud of themselves.

Yeah, its a mixed bag when choosing between Firefox and Chrome - especially if both security and privacy are desired. Personally, I trust and like Mozilla more than Google, but Chrome has better security from what I have observed.

Personally, I would avoid Touch ID. In my opinion, a good security feature should work even when you are asleep or unconscious.
