I've been advocating something like this for ages (albeit I use Mercurial) [1], it is a really really wonderful meeting of technologies. My approach is slightly different; to use a remote repository for version control storage and sync my d

Similar example; the Wright brothers refused funding from the aviation financiers at the time, funded their own work and solved the problem of powered flight in a much shorter time than others had been fruitlessly working on it.

True perhaps. Although I think there is a distinction here, where the crowd is being deliberately absurd . Such absurdity garners undue attention, which also highlights the criticism (of Scientology) they are supporting. And what does Scie

Todays much needed "laugh out loud" moment: How do you, ideologically speaking, defeat a crowd that is enthusiastically demanding that you "DO A BARREL ROLL! DO A BARREL ROLL!!" ?

The problem is that WP is a place where a "global culture" (i.e. an encyclopaedia with global scope) meets sub-culture (in this case a sub-set of programmers). My own personal feeling is that we are too quick to scrub stuff. But there is an

Sadly the mostly widely mis-used rule :) IAR is for daily usage, no real application in this case (because unfortunately the wider community will probably agree with deletions)

Ok really thick comment. If the mass market is being stolen by Android... why didn't Nokia start using Android? It would seem the logical idea; if the platform is burning rather than trying to stand on a piece of planking that has a history

For computer software, especially for the whole campus, Universities usually have a decent budget, so that works to your advantage too.

You are selling enterprise. Repeat this to yourself a few times, it changes all the rules (luckily somewhat to your favour). Tips: 1. Charge high, particularly as they have come to you, and definitely if you are the only one in your space.

I think that the limitations we face vary depending on what model you are trying to solve. So; are you trying to create software that "emulates" human intelligence (i.e. AI)? In which case, yes, software is the major limitation. Or are you

Excellent. Now drop in some version control (mercurial for my own preference :)) and we are onto a winner. Dropbox is great for syncing between your development machines, but version control is essential for deployment and team development.
