I dislike car culture, but owning a car is not that expensive unless you own a newish one.

Fixed rate means houses on the whole are more expensive though

And there might be more planes that would go down and more cheaters without any regulation. Just because you can't stop everything doesn't mean you shouldn't regulate anything

I'll answer that for you: yes

Maybe the middle ground here is an organization that simply monitors AI rather than enforces licenses?

This sounds a little bit like a conspiratorial slippery slope. Just because they want to regulate large, expensive deployments of a unique type of software doesn't mean they want or will try to control everything.

Crypto can facilitate truly decentralized money, and although that hasn't truly happened yet, I would argue that is a feature. Does society want that and would government allow it? I don't know

It's not just about government services. Wealth = power and speech in America and reducing that to any one, unelected person is another benefit of reducing wealth inequality.

This is mostly because capital gains is taxed less than income.

True and I 100% agree not everybody can live in santa monica or San Francisco. It should be expensive or inhibiting in some way.

Exactly. These people dont want to actually pay the costs to keep things as they are because really it's about property prices.

And why should an individual not be able to build whatever they want (including apartments) on land they own? Why should local decisions override individual freedom?

And if an individual wants to sell his property he owns to someone to build apartments who are the rest of the community to stop him?

No one is taking single family homes from people in Santa Monica. They are just saying anyone who wants to sell they can now turn that into apartments. If you frame it the way I'm describing it really it's the NIMBY people who &

From a utilitarian perspective though it's a greater harm to all the people that would live in the high-rise that now have to live miles from the city versus the handful of single family home owners.

Harm is done to the person owning the single family home absolutely but I would argue that is the lesser of two evils. The best way would be to give them some element of compensation, but still, if one wants a nice, lower density area they

I dont think most people realize how big a deal location is. Move to a big city in the north east (NYC is the best) and you will have better luck than the west coast or midwest. The numbers favor men in those locations.

What about a tax such that you can only use assets as collateral for a loan if you've paid any outstanding capital gains on them? Would affect normal people through HELOCs but otherwise would mostly affect the very wealthy.
