Regarding your last point: I've (finally!) switched from Windows to Linux last year. I have, however, decided to set up a dual boot system, and have installed Linux first. Worked just fine.

Impeccable timing, I was just about to try and get into shaders. Thank you so much for writing this, I will be reading it on the weekend.

Making $100 and not having a graphics card for over a year does not work out to "sold at the right time" for me somehow.

The most popular choice in Germany used to be ICQ, at least based on my own friend group and various conversations I've had over the years.

The other side of that coin is that Nimbus (if it's installed) will happily insert itself as an alternative to Arial and/or Helvetica (cannot remember), even though it's a trash typeface with a broken baseline. I think just g

I think writing the happy path can be a very important part to programming, yes. I know some programmers who don't need to see immediate results when writing their software, but me personally? I can't really do without it. It help

"Do the first two look the same to you? It’s because some devices display them inconsistently, when the characters sit all by themselves." And also because this article uses an en dash in the table in place of a hyphen.

50% opacity probably works my manually interlacing two images, then reducing the size to 50%. You can also do fun stuff like gradients in MS Paint: start out with a square canvas, divide it diagonally and fill each resulting triangle with a

Going to throw another hat into the ring here: I use acme-tiny [1], which is a single file ACME client written in Python in under 200 lines. The idea behind it is that you can fully read and understand everything it does without spending to

You added an /s to the end, but I think this is one of many valid arguments/pain points for a lot of people. It was for me, too: I've been using Linux at work and on my servers for years, but up until recently (September), I

I think one could argue (as many already have) that the purpose of the viewport units is not to solve scrollbar related problems. You can give your <body> element a width of 100% and it will fill all the viewport's space without

I've paid $60 or so once, and then another $60 or so for the upgrade to version 4. I've used Sublime Text for almost 10 years, essentially every single day. A hundred bucks for a tool I use every day is not too expensive. And Subl

Since to-scale solar systems are mentioned in the article, it may be worth talking briefly about Outer Wilds. Outer Wilds is a wonderful game built in Unity and comes with its own solar system. Things are quite a bit smaller than in the rea

My local IKEA (and others in Germany I've been to) has an inventory number on a tag of every item. Next to it is the shelf number and section within that shelf where I can find that particular item in the warehouse. IKEA also provides

You could preserve the colors with some CSS, even :) I have the sudden urge to write a small tool/some CSS that can automatically convert bits of terminal output into ready-to-use fancy HTML+CSS.

I'm already benefiting from IRCv3's server time extension [1], since I use ZNC and get the actual timestamps for each message that I get from its buffer that way. You have capability negotiation [2] at the core of it all, anyway.
