The story is about a way that a specific company is potentially being used for money laundering. There's no calling them out. Calling them out would be "Online fraud costs $X billion a year" and then only giving examples of A

I don't think the article is arguing that no one should pursue hard problems that have economic incentives to be solved, it is saying that when you are a non-expert, you should defer to popular opinion. There's nothing stopping pe

If Uber was based around this kind of thing then I would support them. Their current business model (for the most part) is one person going to one place. It's identical to driving everywhere yourself, without the hassle of parking.

Zero facts? The fact is that 3 people sold between the company finding out and the public finding out. In fact, there is only one fact missing which is evidence that they knew of the breach. Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that we

Belief should not be optional in the face of well-supported scientific conclusions. The problem is it's easy to mistake un-supported conclusions for well-supported conclusions.

It's a subjective thing, but I feel that in the past GoT was a cake where the base was characters, dialogue, and world, topped with an icing of cliffhangers, sex, and subverting audience expectation. Now it feels like a lot of icing wi

Is there a legal / not crazy expensive way to buy humble bundle books and get them printed on standard 8.5x11, bound in a series of binders / duotangs / twine? I'm going to buy the bundle, but greatly prefer physical pag

Horrific is a major exaggeration since the weather is the least extreme of all major Canadian cities. Rain and clouds for months isn't horrific, it's bland.

Listening to The Dollop is a great reminder of how entirely fucked up things have been in America in the past. Last lobotomy? 1967. Last "vampire killed" 1892 (or 93). It gives me hope that no matter what madness happens in the

The narrative around that is crystal clear. He filed a police report, and when the police went to Uber they gave incorrect information. They cooperated exactly like an accomplice giving a false alibi, actually.

One thing I've been confused about: didn't this whole thing start when a vendor sent an e-mail to Google that was intended for Uber, and the contents of the design in that e-mail were sufficiently similar to Google's designs

What fraud are you referring to? The type where ads are reported as clicked, but advertisers don't see the user come to their site, or the type where influencers don't tag when they've been paid to promote a product?
