I'd've rated Adipotide at 2 (make a large difference to the lives of hundreds of millions of people), and even with cognitive effects factored in, well, Apple hasn't had zero cognitive effect either. The thing is, there was already an ag

You kinda can. Life isn't a comic book, and if you saw Elon Musk when he was 15, he wouldn't have any special aura of destiny glowing around him. I'm not saying that everyone can grow up to be Elon Musk, but he didn't have any sort of spe

Can you say where the scariest and most ambitious convincing pitch was on the following scale? 1) We're going to build the next Facebook! 2) We're going to found the next Apple! 3) Our product will create sweeping political change! This

I'd just like to note, because nobody else seems to actually be saying it out loud, that this is potentially the most important thing for world poverty that we've heard about in the last 10 years. If this model works , and more countries s

I wasn't surprised by the drugs part, but learning that stolen bikes are considered street currency actually makes me more bullish on Bitcoin. It's still a terrible idea, but it's got to be more convenient than using bikes as currency. I w

Is it just me, or are a lot of those challenges crap? Biological quantum field theory being used to control the evolution of pathogens? WTF? Who wrote this, a Markov algorithm?

Am I the only one who reads this and thinks that it sounds like a merely pointless ritual of "Why, no, I couldn't possibly do that, the gods would be displeased" that ruined some poor startup's day? If you have a perfectly good story, why

I've stayed away from management my entire life because I assess my own management-talent as so low, and even I can know this isn't how you do it. Managing by fear does not make for a pleasant job experience!

Actually, I think the bet may have been worded so that if gold gains 2% and bitcoin gains 200%, the bet is won. This makes it substantially harder to arbitrage.

It is more efficient and that does justify the decision. Consequentialist ethics runs on quantitative considerations rather than right-of-way, so "it's more efficient" isn't an absolute right-of-way that would mean that you ought to do any
