I've never quite understood this argument. If humans are causing and/or worsening global warming, then understanding how we're doing this will let us know what we can do to mitigate it.

I agree that it's a good time to learn Python... because it's always a good time to learn Python. However, be aware that no one in the Python community expects 3.x to be used widely for a few years. Even for new projects, if you want to

My friends and I run the Music and Gaming Festival (MAGFest: http://magfest.org/ ) and for the past few years I've been tinkering with a webapp to help us get more organized. I've been to a lot of conventions, mostly anime conventions, a

I haven't used Ruby enough to have used method_missing, but I have used Python's __getattr__ to accomplish the same thing. Can you give an example of something that would be easy to solve in Ruby with method_missing but hard to solve in Py

You're correct, although it's worth noting that you can get around this problem in Rhino (Javascript on the Java VM). Steve Yegge talks about this in his semi-recent talk "Rhinos and Tigers": http://steve-yegge.blogspot.com/2008/06/rhinos

Most programmers I've known learn whatever languages they're taught in school and then learn new languages are required by their jobs. So even if a "median programmer" is terrified by Lisp, if they work somewhere that uses Lisp and have to
