I assume crypto has been a fairly big part of it too, a number of chains use Haskell and Cardanos smart contract language is a Haskell library.

Huh - I believe Wes gave me a flying lesson this summer. That or there's another ex-Xerox PARC guy training out of Palo Alto who looks like him! Cool story :)

I weirdly only found out about a few of these rate limiting algorithms yesterday when I was looking at rate limiting Elixir processes for a small load testing tool. Merkle Trees, bloom filters, and raft/paxos are prevalent in crypto so

What companies are those? I can see people who worked at Terra Labs having issues but I don't know if it'll be any harder for them to find work than say those at Theranos when it closed - high profile fraud will impact you sure.

I like simplicity and for that reason the first thing I do on any project larger than a bash script is setup a container for it. It helps isolate my OS from the project, allows me to easily share it via dockerhub so others can run it, let

Maybe articles like https://www.infoq.com/articles/build-a-container-golang/ could help? Basically learn how to build a simple one.

I can see this. Disney has some absolutely amazing content for many different groups of people while Netflix has become boring and stagnant. Nowadays I assume what I'm wanting to find isn't on Netflix and go straight to Prime to r

Yeah that sounds pretty familiar to my experience! Right now I'm in an infra team and work on the CI pipelines, testing frameworks for devs, testing infra, etc... So more time dealing with docker/k8s than a unit testing framework

What are test engineer roles like at Google? I’ve basically only spent my time in startups on critical systems (defense, finance) so have no idea what it’d be like at a larger company or team.

Electricity is going up like mad in England too, they’ve recently changed the rules so suppliers can increase the price every 3 months instead of 6 months to allow more price changes.

That’s good to know, I had bad luck with it then. But even so, you also lost the ability to use testing patterns like the page object model where you can update changing IDs or flows more easily - if something changes drastically early in t

It uses a combination of xpaths that are like body[1]div[2]div[1]p[2]button[1] so if you edit the UI it'll break, or worst case they do X,Y coordinates of clicks on a page so if the UI changes it'll break. Sometimes it'll get

Selenium is the most popular tool in the industry but mostly for legacy reasons, its real competitor is Cypress. If you've just started a project I'd recommend checking it out, a huge time saver is that you install it as an npm pa

You can do it in the chrome browser tools! There's a record section. Note if you're doing this for automation testing it's going to be pretty flakey and you're better off following best practices and using custom testing

Single unit zoning in Atherton means at least a one acre lot. Have you ever heard of semi-detached housing? That’d count as multi-unit zoning here. Half an acre lot with a good sized house seems pretty nice to me :)

The median house price in my city is $3m, that’s pretty absurd based on prices 10/20/30 years ago. And that’s not even the issue, when a house does go on the market it’s sniped by the ultra rich - like Zucks housing complex he’s b
