Not to mention that in most (all?) places, such as my house here in Arkansas, the property is regularly assessed by the county and broken down between the land assessment and the improvements assessment.

People already pay property taxes on their homes, though. LVT would eliminate taxing the improvements and structures and instead just tax the land itself, so the maximum assessed value would decrease. Additionally, this would ideally be imp

IMO a solution that people rarely discuss is a land value tax, typically also supplemented by pigovian taxes on things like alcohol, carbon emissions, etc. I personally think income taxes have proven to be a beauracratic and political night

Not really true from my experience. For example, here's a Markdown library written in Kotlin that you can use with a plain Java interface: https://github.com/valich/intellij-markdown

If by "flawed" you mean it isn't a true democracy, I would say that I don't think it was ever intended to be one. It was designed to function as a republic and prevent mob rule.

This has been a few years in the making. The actual innovation here is the new gesture-sensitive fabric being woven into the denim, not whatever it's talking to.

Sorry - I used '>' first but instinctively changed it to a block since HN didn't actually format it any differently. (And I use a Chrome extension to restyle HN, so code blocks don't have the issues you described.)

Looks pretty slick! Requested early access to the editor. I'm still not a fan of Electron apps. I'd rather they at the very least be offline Chrome apps, so then I'd at least be using the latest Blink/V8 combo. Not to me

My Chromebook Pixel LS has an SD card slot. It wouldn't be a surprise if this one also has one.

My Chromebook Pixel LS included a Core i7 that was more than enough for regular Chrome OS usage, plus running Arch Linux via Crouton.

It's primarily the chipset vendor (i.e. Qualcomm, Nvidia, etc.) at fault for lack of updates, not the OEMs. Treble removes one more excuse for OEMs to hide behind. (Not to mention the infrastructure is now in place for Google to push d

I'm fully in support of defined, rolling release trains. 6 months is a good start considering where they're coming from. I feel like that's still slightly too long though, and is one of the things I wish the Go team would cha

As I understand it, the OEM modifications will be relegated to the vendor/odm partitions. They specifically hint at being able to push new system partitions directly in the future.
