I've never user Google or DDG assistants, tbh. My use for Kagi's assistant is for stuff related to work. I'm a university prof., so it "saves me a bit of time" while checking for errors in assignments, clarify conce

Yeah, that reply is a mildly infuriating, in view of what they're planning.

Well, no... I use maybe 1/5 to 1/3 of may month allowance on Assistant. It's nice to have. And I subscribed to Kagi also because of it. So, the Assistant going away would mean my expensive Duo subscription going away as wel

Again, right now the assistant is entirely optional. Oh, summarizer and translate are base on the same models, by the way.

You're looking at the finger and missing the Moon.

That's why I don't think anybody is going to pay for the Assistant alone.

Friendly reminder that you're not forced to use it. "I despise soccer, so soccer should disappear".

by EbNar 7mo ago
Well, good for you, I guess. But for the rest of us who use the Assistant this would be a net downgrade, AKA paying the same for less.

I'm at my second E-series ThinkPad right now. My "old" one, from 2018, is still rocking and my son is happily using it. Reason for the E-series: cheaper than T, good keyboards, easily serviceable/expandable and the feeli

Yup. In may case, if I'm lucky enough I may get a permanent position relatively soon. That would surely improve my productivity a lot. Finger crossed.

Probably so. I'm in academia as a teacher and as a researcher. I like teaching and I like research. If I were "rich" I'd probably do both things with a much clearer state of mind.

I'm a Linux users since 1999ish and I find extremely annoying and condescending these kind of titles. What about "Hey! I tried Linux and it's cool! Let me show you!", instead?

Yup, I was about to comment on that as well, but didn't want my question to be interpreted as polemic.

Understood. Obviously, all things being equal, I prefer (F)OSS too. Anyway, I'll probably play a bit with Orion, if possible.

Just curious, but is this really a big deal? As a customer, you already trust Kagi enough to feed them your entire search history, so I guess you don't think they're bad actors. Thus, why you find problematic the (momentary?) &quo

Yeah... At home we have partially solved this problem by using a BT speaker on the table, as we mostly watch movie while we have dinner. Simple and effective.

Incidentally, that's the reason why I love photography in Nolan's movies: he seems to love scenes with bright light in which you can actually see what's going on. Most other movies/series instead are so dark that make

Because quantity > quality, as long as Google keeps making money from your time, engagement and attention. Easy.

Same as mine. I just don't use YouTube at all and search for information on alternative sources, preferably in text form.
