I just want a safe-ish language that doesn't nerd-snipe 95% of software engineers into creating glorious and incomprehensible syntactic monstrosities that go nuts with allocations and hidden function calls. Really hoping Zig getting so

I think that proper defensive driving is about identifying risks around you and achieving separation from those risks proactively. That can involve "classic" defensive driving stuff like going the speed limit, staying in your lane

This would probably hit the childcare industry very hard. Overtime-exempt employees would still need 5 days of childcare per week, but the employees of childcare facilities are much more likely to be non-exempt. So those childcare centers w

Salaried employees are exempt from overtime regulation, so I'm not sure how a provision saying "You can't cut salaries because of this bill" is any help. The bill doesn't impact salaried employees at all.

Human beings don't generally want to be programmers. They have other things to do with their time. I've never understood this obsession with getting non-technical people into programming with some new development methodology or pr

The analogy to notarizing everything you sign is misguided. Notarization is not required to prove you signed something -- it's usually required to make a legal claim about something in the document, e.g. "I am making these claims

Decriminalization unfortunately gained steam at exactly the same time that a drug that legitimately did need to be made illegal started becoming popular and cheap to manufacture. Fentanyl is just plain bad news. It's not a coincidenc

I'm sure I'm a pollyanna about all this, but every time some new piece of tech or innovation comes out, English majors crank out "What Hast Thou Wrought" pieces like nobody's business. The truth is nobody knows how

Glad I'm not the only one who had this reaction. I just can't bring myself to accept that a problem that could be solved with a slightly better version of JSON or property lists requires this many buzzwords.

It's not that cut and dry -- "the spirit of the law" is not a get-out-of-jail-free card for poorly-drafted legislation. That's why we have courts. They'll weigh the text of the law versus the drafted text versus the
