You don't even need to reverse it. It's in the public clang, and I'm working on helping my team adopt it in some test cases. And it's not just the bounds-checking that's great -- it makes a bunch of C anti-patterns

Agreed. There is sort of a vicious feedback loop at play too: 1. Large tech firms overhire like crazy 2. Interest rates go up, firms layoff tens of thousands of workers who never should have been hired in the first place 3. Firms pile more

Wow, this might actually be me. When I was doing a protein-heavy, carb-light diet, my numbers matched up with these ranges exactly. High LDL, high HDL over 80, and low triglycerides. Granted that was a good 15 years ago, but still. Glad to

My cholesterol is (frankly) through the roof. My GP wanted to start statins immediately. I pushed back and asked what the big deal was -- my RHR is low, BP is normal, my weight is fine, I have an active lifestyle, and my diet is fine. They

Good. OCSP sucks. It's a fail-open design, and the fact that it exists means that a lot of security people have developed an auto-response for certificate lifetime problems, even in domains where OCSP is totally infeasible, like secure

There is absolutely no way that happens. Apple cares about Unix compatibility for very good business reasons. Apple gets a lot of value from being even just Unix-ish. It's the same reasons Microsoft eventually knuckled under and made W

It's not an exaggeration in any sense. fork(2) basically cannot be done correctly in modern userspace stacks.

I grew up in the Chicagoland area. Every time the teachers' union went on strike, my parents' property taxes went up. This caused unending amounts of distress in my household, when the whole point of owning a home was to have a pr

Slack is the best of a bunch of trash options. That doesn't make it good. I shouldn't be able to accidentally select every widget in an app as though it were text. But with Electron apps, that's just normal. Slack puts a nice

In my case, it's "good" pain. If you exercise regularly, you're going to be sore a lot of the time, but you grow to like it. It's a reminder that you worked hard and not really debilitating.

The first law of thermodynamics applies to closed systems, which your body is not. Yes it is true that, very broadly speaking, eating more results in weight gain past a certain point. But first principles are not the most proximate reason f

I would love for `union`s to be federated, that is, a type could declare itself as thought it was part of a union with another type, without having to pre-declare all possible types in one place.

We don't know the path for how a given input produces a given output, but that doesn't mean we don't know how LLMs work. We don't and can't know with certainty which specific atoms will fission in a nuclear reactor

Yeah I love trailers. I remember trying to use notes for certain things, and they were just kind of a pain (though I cannot remember exactly what roadblocks I hit). Trailers met my needs nicely.
