Oh man, I couldn't say for sure if it had sound or even what speed it was. I sold it after 6 months and built myself a dual PII-350 machine. That gem of a system ran BeOS exclusively like a bat out of hell. Big fan of your blog posts!

I exclusively buy physical books and then pirate the ebook. If I'm going to own a book, I'm going to OWN the book. Reading on a proper e-ink device is just too nice to give up, though.

I got into BeOS on the exact same system in 1998. I miss that little machine dearly.

Same. I had a dual 133mhz back in ~2000. I regret selling it, but bills had to be paid and I just couldn't use it as my main computer at that point.

I use ZFSBootMenu to boot a single distribution on each of my systems. While it certainly can help booting multiple different environments, the real value-add to me is that my entire OS is contained on a single filesystem. There's no l

That's exactly right. We also append spl.spl_hostid to the command line, to work around any possible hostid mismatches inside the boot environment.

Since the pool itself is imported read-only by default, there's no state to keep. We don't even need to export the pool, no txg's can be generated and left in a pending state. If a pool is switched to read-write so that the d

Void Linux is probably as close as you'll get to that. OpenZFS is supported across every packaged kernel, and it has native packages for ZFSBootMenu. You can't just click-through to a root-on-ZFS setup like you can with FreeBSD -

Creating and shipping a UKI means that people can just write it to a USB drive that has a vfat partition marked as an ESP. As long as the filename is BOOTX64.EFI, modern x86_64 hardware will automatically find and boot that if no other work

I'm one of the two ZFSBootMenu authors - it's great seeing people using it in the wild. I'm not sure if this is something you're doing already, but don't forget that if you zfs send a snapshot to your storage pool,

I'm a huge fan of UKI - it's part of the underlying 'magic' of ZFSBootMenu ( https://github.com/zbm-dev/zfsbootmenu/ ). We ship a single EFI file that is a full Linux kernel, a semi-custom initra

Take a look at Chimera Linux - https://chimera-linux.org/ . It's a desktop-focused distribution that uses dinit. It'll be one to watch once it stabilizes.

Void Linux doesn't use systemd because it doesn't build against musl libc. Void ships musl and glibc packages for multiple CPU architectures and has a very lively development team and update cycle. It's not dead, it's ju

I'm not really sure why you'd post documentation from 2008. http://docs.haproxy.org/2.6/intro.html is the equivalent documentation for the current release of HAProxy.

I had a PowerPC Mac in ~1998 and I put BeOS R4.5 on it. What a HUGE change from MacOS ... I couldn't believe a computer could actually act and respond like that! I jumped ship to Intel hardware to stick with BeOS. I'm very curious
