If "CR" is the only bad byte, that means that 255/256 of the symbols are okay to use. That beats UTF-16 embedded in a string, where only 63481/65536 of the symbols are okay to use. My approach was to use very large inte

Let's say you took a document as a string, and split it up into words using a lot of string views. Every string view created would affect the reference count of the parent string. Then every time you work with the string views, savin

Really cool stuff there, how did you read the bytes back? Normally you get a CORS error if you try to use a network request to read back yourself.

I was working on a trick to save files in a more compact way by taking advantage of UTF-16 encoded HTML files. I have an example HTML files on my website here: https://www.dwedit.org/files/test.html (Tip: type "co

There's basically no distinction between a string view and an array slice. It's borrowing an array, and the view is nothing but a reference to the parent, start position, and length. But views are also implemented as a plain poin

The problem with string views is that they are borrowing the parent string, so you'd need to hold a strong reference to the parent string. This is easy to do in a garbage collected language, because you don't have to do anything.

There are extensions like "Save Page WE" that will dump the current state of the DOM to an HTML file, including CSS and Images, but these are static and don't make the scripting work.

I've seen programs blow up because they think they need to "canonicalize" the path, when all they actually want is a full path (a rooted path rather than a relative path). Canonicalizing the path resolves all drive letters an

Two different ideas of what an exception is. One idea is merely a form of control flow (like 'if' or 'goto') that could jump down the call stack. This kind of exception handler could be made fast if necessary. The other
