A terminal masters degree by itself is a signal for the ability to write a pair of $20K checks. The requirements for a masters are far less rigorous than the requirements for a bachelors at the same institution.

Google is an inclusive, supportive environment, and though. The vast majority of hires (but perhaps not no-hires, of which there are more voices) say Google is the best job they ever had. Google employees and management aren't perfect, but

I haven't seen Google worse than similar companies on that front. Interviewing is stressful for everyone. Remember that Google hires engineers and makes them interview. It doesn't hire people for interviewing talent. (But they probably shou

What does metaprogramming have to do with that complaint though? It is trivial to generate lawsuit without regard to feedback. Watch: Does Google have family leave? --6 weeks, paid. Did I get the job? --No Because I plan to have kids??? Se

My company's was sued by a candidate because we offered him coffee and he glommed onto that as religious discrimination. There is no legal exposure from giving feedback. Some people will sue if they want, and some people will discriminate (

Brooks oversimplified a bit. In a large organization, more PMs and subdivindings into groups are necessary. Hierarchy isn't.

I realize my comment is redundant because you already said "infographic", but that image is garbage. The salary numbers are incredibly misleading, since they ignore stock or are an arbitrary sample.

Without mobile ad analytics, prices are inefficient and therefore ads are biased to the most profitable buyers, not the highest quality. Do you have any reason to suspect that quality is more profitable?

FYI your cutoff idea is what Google actually does. Ad quality is a problem Google works on. The main complaint people have is that Google doesn't do a good enough job of overruling users "for their own good" when those users are consistentl

Aka the real world. Google ads stink? Turn on kiosk mode and load wikipedia before letting your kid on the computer. Or just download some quality content and unplug the network cable, which is probably the best idea anyway.

Interesting question: for younger folks who weren't aware of the Altria name change, does anyone think Altria is not a criminal enterprise?

Google's ads are the single easiest-to-block set of ads in the history of mankind, online or meatspace. The simple fact that most folks don't bother to block then show that either they aren't too negative, or people are so dumb and lazy tha

Not pedantic, it's the core of the issue. Also, it is not obvious how much much of Google's ad profit is extraction (via being the monopolistic intermediary running an auction) vs creating genuinely novel introductions between buyers and se

Fun fact: Amazon and Microsoft have done "devops" since before the word was invented. Google and Microsoft do not. As usual, the correct answer is "don't hire idiots" and "do have clear policies, tools, and audits", not "don't allow person

The lack of rigor in your explanation undermines the point you are trying to make. You have definitions in your head that you are not expressing in a meaningful way. Ungrounded intuition just doesn't help when reasoning about infinity. The

But don't confuse money (which can be inflated an has no inherent unit of conversion to the material world or labor) with material wealth. If everyone had, say, a Star Trek 3-D printer and power/atom supply, we'd all be pretty well off.
