As a Norwegian I am not very happy about that one. We messed up big time. It was silly enough to give the Nobel Peace Prize to somebody who hadn't really done anything worthwhile yet (but showed promise), but then to have that person a

Snowden is just a guy, he doesn't need to be some flawless saint to point out that the US government is lying and spying on it's citizens.

The two ponds are one and the same. There isn't one "android phone" market and one "windows phone" market, there is a smartphone market that both draw customers from.

Not that I think this system would work, but people do volunteer without being paid: charity, soup kitchens, etc.

No, adding more points of failure doesn't make the first potential point of failure more fail-proof, or anything like that.

Unity is a lot of things, but an "innovative experiment" is not one of them. Unity is more a collection of various ideas and concepts from other modern UIs.

You seem to be overly focusing on certain parts of the article to make your point. The fact that DDG is terrible at searching for error messages (showing sites experiencing the errors rather than explanations of the errors) is a pretty non-

At this point of time IE6 is a wide open door, something as trivial as reading your paste isn't that big of a deal in comparison.

As pointed out elsewhere, a "play" and a "play" here are wildly different. A radio "play" can involve several thousand people, while a Pandora "play" probably involves one or two persons.

It's easy to say that this comparison is silly because the US still has free press (well, kinda) and such, but it really does make you look twice when you read about the US government making people disappear off the streets without a t

Although it could have some impact, your money isn't "locked" with MtGox due to being able to transfer it to another exchange as Bitcoins, and cash it out as another currency there.

The freedom to have a power is also a freedom. We as a society often want to restrict such powers though.

As long as they have a presence in the US, it's in their best interest to act according to US laws. I don't think saying "while we have many US customers, we are technically positioned in Ireland" is going to cut it.

It's easy to say that "it probably won't happen" today. But so much can happen to change the game in the future. Budget cuts to security, internal employees being "in" on the hack, etc. And what happens when it

Exactly. All a government would need to do is set up a laundry service with the lowest fees and they would be able to track and map a lot of juicy bitcoin usage.

A lot of people want their language embedded in the browser suh as Lua, Dart, Ruby, etc. But the way things are standing now it's not gonna happen. JavaScript, for the better and worse, is what we are stuck with. No browser vendor will be a

The worst part is that Flash and Java aren't going to go away anytime soon either. You basically have to have both, and the web will be a lot harder to navigate on anything but a Windows machine.

While I agree that the "lost income" argument is bunk, it's pretty clear that the code was copied. The number of excessive whitespace after a line of HTML is not something you get "inspired" by, it's something you copypaste.

I am confused, what is the actual advantage of having the countdown be a gif compared to HTML+JavaScript? For video and remote desktop there might be use for the kinds of gifs, but for a numeral countdown?

The sort of DRM that is being pushed for HTML is going about it the entirely wrong way. It will almost certainly result in window-only binary blobs, which is directly in opposition to what HTML should be about.
