I have heard of people who say creatine helps them sleep. Creatine is technically not a stimulant, but in most people it causes a state of mental activation that would make it hard to sleep. I suspect you and the people who sleep better on

I would be curious to hear what “better learning methods” the author used. He calls them out but doesn’t describe them.

I have to disagree :) It’s true that Marionberry is one of the most delicious as well as aggressively thorny, but there are many excellent thornless cultivars pioneered by the University of Arkansas, including Triple Crown and Prime Ark, as

I think the main thing that is exciting about this is that it can hopefully be extended to other cancers. Currently, detecting lung cancer involves imaging with radiation that can itself trigger cancer, but imagine a world in which you can

I agree with your last point—the Solar Council should have provided conditional aid. The most basic assistance could have removed the justification for cannibalism.

I think it means it’s an endowed chair, where the endowment is provided by Panasonic. It’s common for corporations or wealthy individuals to donate large amounts of money to fund prestigious academics.

I wonder if the cleanliness will be maintained over time? Presumably this requires humans to physically clean periodically, and it seems like this would suffer when the company starts to squeeze costs to improve margins.

How could a code completion tool be made safe? One natural response seems to be “it should write bug-free code”. This is the domain of formal verification, and it is known to be undecidable in general. So in this formulation safe AI is math

No, lol—Ilya liked ditching the “open” part, he was an early advocate for closed-source. He left OpenAI because he was concerned about safety, felt Sam was moving too fast.

You might be underestimating vim ;) Key point is that vim macros are interactive. You don’t just write a script that runs autonomously, you say “ok, for the next transformation do this macro. Oh wait, except for that, in the next 500 lines

Employees definitely tolerate this. As said above, this already happens in industry, and also for many years Amazon used to cap salaries at some hilariously low number—I think like 180k. That may not seem low until you try to buy a house in

Oh, they don’t need an internet connection! Just a terminal, vim, and gcc. GCC because C is small, you can just give them paper docs.

I seem to remember that a big concern in feudalism was whether your underling lords would actually show up when you needed them. This kind of “bring me 12 pasties” thing is as you say most likely a token that he will show up in court and br
