In a few years I'll probably have grandkids and when I read this, think it increases the chance that those kids will still be able to go to Disney World in Florida, i.e. it will not be submerged.

More than 40 years has passed since I read it, but I still remember that last part of the book, where he goes skiing down to the waiting guards. You know when you read the last sentence that it was the last sentence of the book, no need to

Agree 100%. I had a bunch of legacy Winform apps and faced the same dilemma. Solved it by switching to Qt. It's excellent even if you just use it for Windows development, i.e. never use any of its crossplatform abilities.

Me too. Finally I understand how the leakage works: no actual reading of kernel memory is taking place. Instead, the read-ahead/speculative logic causes one of two addresses in user space to be read, and thus placed in the cache. So,

Agree, good article. Thanks to it I think I understand more why cryptography based on elliptic curves (like Curve25519) is considered pretty safe for now.

There's also a huge, ever increasing, technical debt that's dragging down the quality of Windows. For example, switching from Windows\System to Windows\System32 for Chicago made 100% sense, but how did we end up with 32-bit softwa

It's easy to do a pessimistic forecast: In order to sway the opinion Trump will need a fake attack on US soil around October, something big and spectacular. Then join our TTT movement: "Trump for a third term!"

Good news: the purchasing process works fine. Bad news: you cannot download the font (the supplied URL, when clicked, first goes to gumroad.com then to cloudfront.net which gives the error: Safari cannot open the page).

Have you tried fail2ban? It really helps to keep the hacking attempts down on your ssh-server(s), especially if you increase the bantime from the default 600 seconds to a couple of million...

You're right, it wasn't the software as such (more like the design of the system). I just read more about PIO and it's funny, it reminds me of a short story I read a long long time ago, written by Arthur C Clarke, I remember
