It seems to me that RBS was very clear about the issue, they simply don't want to deal with gambling. It's a valid debate whether this is a reasonable or acceptable thing to do but it's massively misleading to conclude that this has anythin

As long as you have a EU (Schengen) passport, another EU (Schengen) member state can only deny your entry if its authorities can prove that you pose a "genuine, present and sufficiently serious threat". The burden of proof is on them. It's

This is the characteristic style of Raymond Chen. He is, in fact, a super clever genius and these things are actually completely obvious for him. I think his blog is a good reflection of the internal culture at Microsoft, and I mean a bunch

It is true that they are owned by the same groups (e.g. the Bertelsmann Group) and that's somewhat relevant but I wouldn't think that has too much importance. These companies exchange owners very often. I'm repeating myself but the woes of

There is no such thing as "copyright industry". The motion picture industry, the phonographic industry, the book publishing industry, the software industry, the video game industry all closely related to copyright yet they are all very diff

Apart from the obvious data protection issues, perhaps an even more interesting and frightening aspect of the issue is that that phone number is probably there for a reason. It's entirely possible that some O2 or O2 partner sites use that h

I am a little concerned that such a democratic creative process will lead to the redditification of motion picture; only kumbaya-style movies that make you warm inside, approved by the hive mind will ever be made, while controversial pieces

Indeed the copyright status of derivative works is somewhat controversial. Perhaps one of the most famous examples of the issue is The Grey Album by Danger Mouse (2004) which heavily sampled both The Beatles and Jay-Z. EMI was very keen on

Maybe I'm missing something but I'm not sure if I understand you question. How would you write even a simple parser without being able to access the contents of the string randomly by the character index?

It's really not that simple. If you do a lot of string manipulations, you're better off with either UTF-32 or dumbified (16-bit fixed) UTF-16, otherwise you will have to count characters from the beginning of the string every time you need

It appears to me that this is a made-up argument about terminology and semantics that in no way advances the human race forward; all it's good for is starting angry and meaningless debates about nothing.
