Cocoa and Cocoa Touch were designed with imperative programming in mind though, so this is what the creators of Swift had to work with. I think the main use case for mutable captured values is mutable self, in particular the following, extr

Meh, depends on the situation. Some problems are easily solved in a functional way, some problems aren't, and then there are problems that are best solved using a mixed approach. Sometimes a good old-fashioned for loop (or the equivale

Meh. Anyone who ever worked with the v8 C++ interop API knows that it's a rather unpleasant experience (unlike e.g. Python's C interop API, which is very nice). Nobody uses it out of pure laziness, but because They Have A Very Goo

Every time I visit America I'm surprised by how unwalkable most of metropolitan America is. I always wondered if roads are unwalkable because most Americans wouldn't walk anyway or if Americans don't walk, because roads are u

I never managed to get it working in vim, but you can get pretty decent auto Go completion (with Go oracle) in Emacs.

In addition to what others have said, trademarks are not copyright. They're related as they're both types of intellectual property, but they differ in many important details.

Are you really, really sure that this is not a trademark violation? Do you like receiving cease & desist letters, or your projects getting DMCA'd? Are you prepared to defend your views in court? If not, I would change the name.

I have worked extensively with both Swift and Go. The currently available Swift implementation in Xcode is fairly closely tied to Cocoa (and hence OS X); I think this would be a serious barrier to generic server-side usage of Swift, so I&#x

I think you may be misunderstanding something. The owner of the copyright has exclusive rights to prepare derivative works (or authorise someone else to do so). There are certain exceptions. What's unclear about this? Maybe "used

At least in the United States (and the UK), the copyright owner of the original work has the exclusive right to prepare derivative works, regardless of whether the derivative work is published, distributed or used in any other way.

I disagree with this. Coding interviews are great. The interviewer needs to realise though that they're not there to be an adversary or a judge, but to help the candidate demonstrate their skills, to help the candidate get the job.
