I had the same experience learning French in school as a child. I did really well at reading and writing, but could never understand what the teacher was saying. A couple of years later, in a different school, my classmates were all Hatians

I've noticed the missing reply button; my impression is that it won't appear right away after a post is submitted, which is probably intended to reduce flamewars.

Maybe you should add "There's an FAQ" as an often-unrecognized feature.

Ok, that definitely works, assuming you set your process up that way. In my mind, "deploy" starts with build and targets a single environment. Eg: deploy to staging, deploy to production. I've been working with too many clien

If you aren't currently struggling to manage a large pool of servers / services, then you don't need Kubernetes. Not yet, at least. It's over-complicated overkill if you don't need it yet. So are containers, actua

How does "It auto-updates every time you deploy" fit with "The difference between my local, staging, and production is tiny" ? It sounds like you have little control over your dependencies, and the differences between

The drawback to validating the model in one place only, as shown, is that there is only one response for validation errors. Sure, it's got the details of the error that will vary, but it's ALWAYS sending a 400 error. Even the exam

I'd use Regex.IsMatch() with an option for case-insensitive if I had to do that check. But I coded in Perl for 13 years, so regular expressions come naturally to me.

There's something different about cut & paste vs drag & drop, though it won't impact most people. If you're using RDP and copying files from the host computer to the remote computer, it's natural to cut/copy

I kind of think it is rocket science, since so many people have tried to write their own variant of it. We don't really do that for version control, IDEs, compilers, email clients, browsers, or the myriad other tools software develop

The last thing I want from an external supplier of something I depend on is to have them driving my development and release cycle. I'll expend the resources to upgrade to your latest version when it's worth my time and cost.

I agree, and I prefer jQuery over native. It's still better, and does more. My point was that people say we don't need it anymore because the features it introduced are native now, and I think that's going to be said about Re

The problem isn't learning the frameworks; the problem is creating code that relies on them and has to be supported for years, which may or may not be longer than the active lifespan of the framework.

That used to be the same argument for using jQuery instead of native JS and DOM, but now much of jQuery's goodness is native. I predict the same thing will happen with React. Like jQuery it will still be useful and will probably be som

It's not just cheating a little. Just moving the mouse around the page causes lots of data to be downloaded behind the scenes; you could end up loading every story on HN without ever leaving the Top list. That's not friendly to us
