This is just an anecdote, but I consistently see the same effect when doing A/B testing. The initial hypothesis always does fantastic for the first week or so. But if I let it run long enough, it always drops to zero. Been scratchin

Have a friend that was choked out by a wrestling 'buddy' in high school. That caused a stroke, and he's now got a long life of disability to look forward to. tl;dr don't be stupid - not worth it.

Am I the only one that thinks this is silly? A computer is still just a Turing machine. It's a gigantic abacus, or a huge clock of gears. Heck, I can write a program today to output text begging the power not to be shut off. That c

I've had similar thoughts. But then you think about how would your family get by, and then you (I) chicken out. But if _everyone_ really did...?

I tend to agree. I thought protests were going to be focused in state capitals for that reason. Maybe I need to pay more attention :)

There have been quite a few entries into the market like this over the years (I remember interviewing for one during the great dot com bubble in the late 90's). Normally competition is a good thing - it proves there is a viable market. Bu

I use the start menu to launch apps. Other than calc, i rarely type a program name. I'm visual and icons work great. But screw me, right? :)

By using Windows 8, I discovered I'm much more of a visual thinker than I thought. When I want to launch Excel, I know where it is in the menu and what the icon looks like, but the name "excel" doesn't necessarily come to mind. I just wan

There's a great description about the tech stack at http://blog.fogcreek.com/the-trello-tech-stack/ Does anyone know how many servers it runs on? I'd like to see a physical tech stack description (is it already out there somewhere? If s

If anyone has feedback on this topic, there are probably many of us hackers that would sure appreciate some insight.

Interesting idea. So you go to a download site and grab the latest offering from Ferrari... Everything of value is then IP -- ie the plans and design. Does Ferrari bother selling it's designs if they can be downloaded from a torrent? Ho

This is awesome. Am I the only one that fears a big corp from using SOPA to kick my little website off the web by them simply pasting a bit of their documentation in my forum? I can imagine the copyright trolls asking for "protection money

It took me 10 years of working on a few apps on the side, but today they are a $600K/year business and my full time job. Not the shoot-for-the-moon social apps everyone wants to do, but I'm quite happy.

Certainly not! Lack of understanding of the complete universe is why we don't know if God exists or not. We don't _now_ know how to define and measure love in the lab, so there are likewise probably other things that also cannot be measur

Lots of "migth be" and "seems to be" in that article. I don't think we understand it or can replicate it in the laboratory.

What if the answer can be known? Several people in the world and throughout history claim to _know_ the answer through physical experiences. They are easy to dismiss as crazy, but what IF they've discovered HOW to search? Some things jus
