I am not one of the elite. I had to drop out due to a not simple life. So I think I can offer an outside perspective. I did teach myself a lot of math to be able to understand machine learning. I did not read ahead, that is boring. But I fo

I can't be of help because I only started studying this stuff on the side not long ago. But one of the first things I searched for was differential forms vs Geometric algebra. It appeared that the war between the two was old with both sides

At the moment, the core of the gains are in the conceptually clean framework at the cost of speed. Kind of like going from C to Python. It will help your linear algebra by strengthening your geometric intuitions, stuff like how to figure ou

I am currently working my way through some geometric algebra (as well as algebraic geometry and topology) texts and building a [programming] library incorporating what I read to reinforce my mathematical intuition. I completely agree about

Thanks. You're right. I realized that I'd made that mistake when I was no longer at my computer. I do still readily conflate the terms but not the meanings.

Warning, Long Post There are a few things that you can do that are good for your mind before considering supplementation. These are really basic but most people do not follow them. I didn't till a few months ago. Do you get enough water?

Can you give an example? I have found this is only the case in a small part to do with initializing the structure. Working with Active patterns and monads can turn OO code more functional. As for exposing I write in a typical functional way

Currying and type inference do not make function signatures meaningless, unfortunately however, reading their types is a skill that you need to practice for it to become natural. As for global type inference the one in F# is only partially

A lot of people do spend time on foundations but for most physicists and their day to day work worrying about such things is like a programmer worrying about the Halting problem or whether the problem is in NP or a mathematician worrying ab

for other lay people watching - the original paper was over hyped. There is an interpretation of quantum mechanics that basically thinks that the state of a quantum object is more or less sampled from an underlying reality that we cannot f

I would say it was a matter of interest led by cultural biases, not lack of imagination. It is impossible to look at the ideas of Archimedes and not be dumbfounded by his supreme creativity. Archimedes was able to think of infinitesimals an

I would suggest a clearer example to be long division or euclid's method. Or that software is like stating the Pythagorean theorem and then proving it constructively. This way the process of what goes on when writing code is better captured

I believe mindstab is talking about debates as to whether a quantum wavefunction posses any objective reality. That is an old argument. For example Everett's Many World Interpretation from the 1950's posits a real universal wave function. I
