Very valid point and very valuable question. In this regard it is clearly different from human cloning and I should have thought of that. Obvious in hindsight. In my defense though, if we can find a distinct clear line for AGI, my point s

Worth adding that there is no contradiction in strongly believing both 1+2 are true at the same time. I.e. Evil tech companies are just trying to maintain their control and market dominance and don't actually care or think much about A

I might have agreed with you except... Half-life Alyx. I could be immersed in that one for hours at a time. No nausea or pain or anything and very well worth finding solutions for someone to watch the pets and kid for a few hours so you can

The Alignment Problem book is probably much better. Opens with a banger of a historical backstory. I recommend anyone read the prologue to the book just because of the fascinating history it gives us and how well-written it is as an opener.

You're falling into the trap that one specifically constructed case of a less intelligent being not being in control of the more intelligent being somehow clearly argues the less intelligent can fight back and things will always be OK.

Standard rebuttal to this is if we banned human cloning we can ban AGI. Also China stands to gain from a ban on AGI. Anything that the CCP thinks it can't control it doesn't like. Also China gets the vast amount of its AI capabili

Prohibition comes to mind. Not sure if the analogy works, but it does come to mind as something that I believe was a pretty inefficient ban where the impetus was likewise for the welfare of people. Taxing liquor would have been a far better

Just want to point out I think there's a big difference between using tracking to "gauge interest" and using ads. You can do one without the other. In fact, there are even privacy-respecting alternatives for businesses to tra

Speak for yourself. I don't own a TV precisely because the ads got too much. I haven't owned a TV in well over a decade. I have a cinema system I just hook up to my laptop whenever I want to watch a movie or series from some strea

OK, you've changed my mind and I've updated more towards "banning alone is likely to be net negative to our goals if we don't also subsidize alternatives" I think given I don't use TikTok at all I am bad at int

A better analogy might be cigarettes or psychedelics. I believe mountains of evidence strongly suggest cigs are worse for us and cause a much worse net negative harm on society via increased long-term strain on our healthcare sector. But, j

It's not a preference though is it? Isn't this a data and evidence-based decision based on what policy-makers believe is bad for environmental and economical reasons? Imagine if all evidence pointed to train travel between cities

Your argument could just as easily be applied to human cloning and argue for why human cloning and genetic engineering for specific desirable traits should not be illegal. And it isn't a strong argument for the same reason that it isn&

I don't think it is racist to highlight an aspect of a culture and how it might at a group dynamic level causally influence the outcome of something. The claim that Japanese culture causally leads to better craftmanship might be wrong.

To me your view is just common sense. I find it bizarre how some people seem to be treating ad-blockers like the equivalent of stealing in the comments. It is YouTube's right to prevent me from using their site if I use an ad-blocker j
