I wasn't suggesting we'd all be using Google Maps. The point I was making is that TomTom had a large role to play in their own demise. They went for the quick buck, employing dark patterns, necessary device upgrades etc. And yes c

But thats not whats happening. Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps etc all prefer certain paths over others. I can take a shortcut home which saved me about 5 minutes and potential traffic jams, and Google Maps will never suggest it, unless I del

We use maps extensively in our products and Mapbox has been a belessing eversince we started using it. I would argue Mapbox is far better suited for development and product integration than Google Maps is. It is developer and user friendly,

I don't understand the 'everything was better when it wasn't google' mentality that is so often found in these threads. My dad used to work at TomTom right here in the Netherlands. They used to be a fun and innovative co

Most of the comments seems to be about the impact of cheating on the class or how the system is broken and how it should be fixed. Fact of the matter is, most cheating pays off. In my experience a prof or teacher will rarely go so far as be

I'm glad to see more people sway to systemd. Systemd is 10 years in the making and it was met with skepticism right from the first day. Some of that is now slowly changing with systemd being accepted in more and more distributions. Ser

This particular attack seems difficult in practice. Reassembled fragments still need to yield a checksum-valid frame. With TLS becoming the norm most laptop/mobile/server communication channels will not be affected. As mentioned i

There is also the question if the teacher should be concerned with the test at all. Cheaters will sooner or later find themselves in a situation that demands knowledge and experience. Would this have been a job interview then there is littl

How are these things related? I don't see an obvious connection. Is Google afraid they don't dictate the headlines in the next week?

Its not that crazy. MS contributes a lot (through Citus) to PG ever since they took an interest for Postgres on Azure.

Instead of the whole xCloud idea (which I doubt is going to work) I see much more in the console as the workhorse for heavy games. Stream the input to the console and the video back to the device. Many home networks are well equipped the ha

The fact that the PC and the XBox share the same OS/ecosystem is not enough. A game console is deliberately limited what it can do. You can, for example, remove DirectX from Windows no issue, but for a gaming platform that would be dev

I don't agree with the article at all. The point the author is making has less to do with OSS and more with competition. Business is never 'fair'. The reason people flock to AWS/Azure is because of ease of use, integrati
