All good. You can also find tons of instances of people referring to Apple's computers as MACs. And that one is even worse because MAC is an actual computer-hardware term. So "RAW" may not be a well-known acronym, but it does

"Radio Shack began selling private label products under the name Realist, but the name was changed to Realistic after some litigation." Cool story. I wish a few comments like the above had a bit more background. I wonder if the pr

R, A, and W don't stand for anything. It's raw data off the sensor, not an acronym. Therefore not capitalized. You can find millions of instances of any given literacy-impaired error. "Would of" and "your not going

Software can't turn a phone into an SLR. It's an asinine claim. It's not that the application can't bring value to the platform, but they need to better convey what it is. "Making images that look like they're

I disagree. I was willing to tolerate pretty much any ad on YouTube as long as it was normal ad length (:15, :30, or even a minute) if they eventually ended and THE PROGRAM RESUMED. But then YouTube started PERMANENTLY interrupting what I w

Yeah. I was always pissed that none of the dedicated still-photo film scanners offered a movie-film adapter. I had a Nikon LS-2000 (which sucked, BTW) and it had a film-feed mechanism... but only for 35mm still film. Then again, those scann

The sound retrieval is a good point. I don't think of sound on old movies.

He asked why a projector is relevant for archiving, not viewing. The only answer I can imagine is for viewing newly-discovered film to determine its content and condition, in order to decide whether it's worth scanning.

And they typically suck. It's a different story if you want to properly scan 8mm from edge to edge and get TIFFs (or similar) for each frame.

So what? At worst, it's no worse. But by default, it's already way better. Why? Because all of our E-mail addresses are on thousands of spammers' lists. So if you hammer that list with a dictionary of popular passwords, you&#

This is a good reminder that forcing people to use an E-mail address as a user ID is a stupid and dangerous policy. Voted down by amateurs who set their Web apps up this way. Killing the messenger won't secure your users' credenti

Yeah there was no excuse for it. Daley lied repeatedly about his motivation. The real story? That's where downstate politicians flew in, and to spite them he destroyed the coolest GA airport in the country. Meigs was the default starti

Sure enough, this entire button is devoted to plug-ins... which the vast majority of users are likely to have none of. Another fine UI choice by today's Microsoft.

But those are not exclusive. Look at the File "dialog" in Word now. Seriously, take a look at this mess and then see if that is "prettier" than a proper File dialog on ANY platform.

That should be MAYOR Daley, of course. But major D-bag nonetheless. His illegal destruction of Meigs Field in the middle of the night ranks up there with some all-time thefts from the public, along with his sale of Chicago's parking me

Indeed. The compositing tool of choice for this movie and any other effects-heavy movie from the late '90s well into the 2000s was Shake (by Nothing Real, later bought by Apple). The only competition was Nuke, the in-house tool at Digi
