Language barriers are another reason. Most of the time I can communicate in English just fine, but if I am to contact a tech support guy/gal from India I very much prefer text chat :-D

Yes! The app that I used for learning touch-typing even had a metronome built in, and it encouraged you in the instructions to enable it when practicing.

Both have huge (1.5B) populations, and are shitty places to live, so a lot of people want to get out of there, and H-1B visa is one of the best ways. Huge number of applicants gives you huge number of visas granted. Also, it's the othe

For movies it is seven types: 1. Man vs Man. 2. Man vs Dog. 3. Dog vs Zombie. 4. James Bond. 5. Stories of Kings and Lords. 6. Women Over 50 Finding Themselves After Divorce. 7. Car Commercial.

Yes, most things are cheaper, except those tiny, insignificant ones, like houses, college tuition, medical bills...

Well, depending on the actual situation it might or might not be "insane". I mean, why is AirBnB responsible for withholding taxes from people who are not their employees? Or even are individual business owners? When you go to a r

So what? government just orders lower rents for current renters? That might work short term, but in the longer one it will simply destroy the local property market. No one will be willing to build housing anymore, as it won't be profit

It's silly how some people believe in infinite power of "The State". Government can't just will new housing into existence just by passing a bill. Housing costs money. And when I say "money" I really mean "

Still, you can get a collection of like 10-20 regexes for most common types of obfuscation, and that will solve the problem like 90% of the time. And it is much cheaper, computationally, than running LLM on the whole content.

I meant: after you've analyzed the whole solution space for a smaller board, can't you come up with some heuristics, which will be applicable regardless of the board size? Checkers is a very simple game, all pieces are identical,

Is it just me or is "obfuscation" like "john [at] company [dot] com" trivially solved with regular expressions? Or even simple search/replace? Are there more advanced techniques for that?

Does the board size matter here? Wouldn't the strategy from 8x8 board somehow generalize to bigger boards? The one issue that I can possibly see is even vs odd board sizes, e.g. play on 9x9 board can be a bit different than 8x8 or 10x1

Every time I hear the talk about "environmental impacts" of something, I tend to use/do even more of that thing, just out of spite.

I'm running Windows (ARM) virtual machine on M1 Air, and it's constantly thermally throttled. It was hitting 95 Celsius degrees sometimes. I even bought one of those cooling pads with three fans, to make up for the lack of cooling

Yes, the black is the "killer feature" of those Macs, I'm thinking about upgrading from my M1 Air solely for this reason :)

I think this is brilliant: let the people know how much of the price actually goes to the company, and how much to the government. Helps people make an informed decision on who's to blame for high prices of everything.

Because women are more picky. Men choose quantity over quality :P For a man any reasonably good looking, reasonably slim woman is good as a potential sex partner (so they will swipe right on Tinder). Women want the best of the best.

I guess that's the result of watching television for 4-5 hours a day, where every actor/actress is super humanly handsome. This changes your baseline, and makes guys/girls in the real world ugly by comparison.

Ideally you need at least two hobbies: one that you and your Tinder match have in common, so you can do it together, and the other one that is weird and unique so you can impress them, and sustain their interest :-D
