You know, I wrote a number of successful open source packages. By and large, feedback is positive, or at least utilitarian: bug reports, feature requests, questions. But there is also the occasional angry user, or, rarely, a simple thank yo

Let me fix that: Tidelift wants high-profile JavaScript developers to get payed. Their scanning process does not even think of anything non-web. Boohoo for us Pythonistas and Emacsens and Lunatics.

I agree so much! It's good to remember that many things seem impossible until you do them! After all, if they were easy, someone would have done them already.

About 8% of all males are color-blind. If you are a scientist, and want to publish your work, there's a one in four chance that at least one of your three reviewers is color-blind. Rainbow color schemes are ridiculously bad. One study

Well, obviously I wouldn't go for the stock configuration. Seeing my needs, the top CPU, RAM, and GPU seem reasonable. But I really didn't check. The point is, the MBP's performance per dollar is ridiculous.

Evolution may not be pretty, but it works pretty well for Email, Calendar, and Contacts (assuming that's what you mean by PIM). Honestly though, email has lost a lot of utility for me in the last few years (privately; professional emai

The exact same thing happened to me. Now I have a big tower PC for serious work (32 cores, 64 Gb RAM, dual 1080) plus a nice laptop (XPS 13), for a combined cost of less than this MBP. While the Linux software ecosystem is not quite as smoo

Does this mean that I can write with file := open('filename'): data = file.read() instead of with open('filename') as file: data = file.read() I don't know how I feel about this.

But that's exactly to the OP's point: You need to think about this. You need to figure it out beforehand. In Python, you can express this without that mental overhead--particularly while prototyping.

And let's not forget that ObjC is downwards compatible with C. If you need a particular loop or function to be fast, you can write it in C, in the same ObjC source file .

This has been my experience as well: Python-style Julia code often does not run faster than in Python. Only of you rewrite it in C-style do you get C-like performance. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Just an observation from me transla

How powerful are you planning your extensions to be? On a scale from Textmate (shortcuts that run shell scripts) to Emacs (you can implement Vim in Emacs), where would Xi's extensions stand?
