nuget is the closest to apt-get you can get on Windows. Chocolatey is only a download script for a bunch of GUI apps―very useful in its own right, but not a package manager with dependency resolutíon etc.

Just a remark on credit cards in Europe: yes, they are less common than in the US. However, this is mostly because Europeans use "EC cards" instead, which mostly work like debit cards except that they are issued by the banks them

This is a terrific writeup about the latencies of text editors. Now the next step is to research the effects of latency on cognitive strain, typing accuracy, and typing speed. Without that, the latency numbers themselves don't mean muc

So "PS" is metric for horsepower. Who knew. (it's German for horsepower, but German horses are just as powerful as imperial ones, and not particularly metric: PS literally means "Pferdestärken", i.e. "horse-p

After having owned three kindles, I have switched to a kobo about a year ago. The kobo has many of its own problems, but it gets the reading experience right: it uses (very un-aggressive) hyphenation, and the lock screen displays the book c

I want to like KaTeX so much, but without `\begin{cases}` or `\begin{align}`, it just can't typeset some of the equations I use. I'll keep an eye on it though. Maybe they'll implement those things some day.

Emacs is an interactive programming environment for building your own text editor. It is what you make of it. Vanilla Emacs is very middle-ground, just like you say. My personal Emacs is an extension of myself, with lots of functionality on

Is this relevant for consumers? SSDs were a huge improvement for everyday computing; would NVMe be a similar jump?

Often, the problem with US cities is that they use a lot of space for parking lots. In order to be practical for walking and cycling, businesses have to be very densely packed. Having a parking lot in front of every business spaces them too

Another language that supports this is Julia: In Julia, `/` is division, but `//` creates a rational number. Thus, in Julia, `1//10 + 2//10 - 3//10 == 0//1`, and `1 / (1//

I have written quite a bit of cross platform audio code. Portaudio really works fine. If you need low latency on Windows, use the ASIO backend. Compiling it on Windows is a bitch, though.
