There’s a fantastic board game on this theme, for anyone interested in such things. Players can only grow their plants or spread seeds in spaces that receive light. Plants obscure light, the bigger the plant, the bigger the shadow area. The

Set the expectation that everyone will demo their work sometime around half way through the sprint. That way everyone knows they’ll be showing something and so will have to think earlier about how ‘done’ they really are, what visible progre

A teacher I had told a story about using this (or something very similar) with students in the 80s - they were asked (by the U.K. govt he said iirc) to destroy pics they’d got of the Chernobyl area around the time of the disaster.

Not metal? Go listen to some of Dimebag Darrell’s solos. They sound ridiculously bad if played in whole semitones. Fair enough, he’s fairly bluesy. But other genres of metal give the distinction you give the left hand to the right too - var

It is nice. Thanks, I was genuinely curious - I hadn’t seen or heard of it before the Queen mentioned it. Rainbows seem a slightly naive choice in that case but if it’s an organic grass roots thing that’s pure chance, of course.

Did anyone hear of this rainbow = NHS thing before the Queen’s speech? I ask because surely most of the country knows the existing connection between the rainbow symbol and LGBT issues. Like, areas of my city painted roads in rainbow colour

I'm afraid not sorry. Though it probably wasn't a great benchmark. They were only investigating whether enabling exceptions has a cost if not thrown on MSVC. So a single example where there was a penalty was enough to cast doubt o

Theoretically true, but colleagues of mine have done benchmarks showing MSVC has a slight overhead with exceptions enabled, even if none are thrown. Worth benchmarking yourself if you need to be sure.

Writing fractal shaders is great fun, agreed. I found mip mapping introduced artefacts around discontinuities in the texture coordinates - this was doing orbit trap texturing, but the UVs in the described method would have similar discontin

I found these articles incredibly helpful in learning to help myself. I have no idea if they are factually correct, but the writer's way of reframing depression as a process or system was a great way to get some distance from my person

It's not clear from the article, but I suspect the author is talking about what happens when the vector is resized and has to move existing elements, which is a real problem. There are plans to solve this - http://www.open-s

I’ve found it very flaky on iOS - regularly try to transfer between my phone and my wife’s sitting next to each other and it will randomly not see the other phone or take minutes to find it :( When it works, it just works.
