A company I cofounded back in 2013-2014 was trying to do this. Although our plan of attack showed promised, the company crashed and burned for "legal" reasons. For this to work, you need to do three things: (1) get the original ex

"The E-myth" by Michael Gerber is the single most helpful book I've ever read on transitioning your thinking from engineering-focused to business-minded. Specifically, the difference between the Technician, the Manager, and t

I've been trying to put my finger on what bothers me about Sam Altman ever since he was named President of YC in 2014. Now I know. It's less to do with him; more to do with this narrative of Sam Altman as some visionary, world-sav

Appreciate you taking the time to respond. It seems like you're targeting two different markets (developers & their clients/employers), and having to construct two different product stories. Of course, what appeals to the deve

At first I didn't understand the difference between Netlify vs. Jekyll / Hugo + s3_website [1] + S3/CloudFront + git. Admittedly, (1) the OP does a terrible job differentiating the two, and (2) there's significant overla

Have to love HN cynicism. This most certainly is not blogspam. Allow me to explain the "utterly disjoint and aimless essay" and "born-yesterday-lauditory" accounts (of which I may be lauditory, but hardly born-yesterday)

Personal note: I worked with Joanne a few years back at a startup in Manhattan. She helped to improve our product in a very short timeframe. A pleasure to work with; the very definition of a professional.

Of course, if the deal falls through they lose their payout. That's sad. We don't disagree there. Please explain how GM would renegotiate their equity stakes pro rata? I've never come across this.

The engineers will not be screwed over. They get the same amount -- whether Jeremy wins or not. Jeremy is seeking half of whatever Kyle is slated to receive, i.e., his diluted pre-seed 50% stake.

Absolutely! Postgres has amazing documentation. My comment was directed towards other projects. I wish they would follow Postgres's lead.

I'm the same way: take a question and answer with the source. But as my time gets more and more constrained, I wish more large open-source projects had design docs akin to CockroachDB. I read through the CDB design doc in one sitting,

At a previous company, we adopted a system similar to Google's early review process. Every repo would have two owners (for redudancy in case of sickness). We'd put the emails of both owners in an OWNERS file. Then, whenever a pull

I agree, if someone was claiming they could grow a business 10x/year, that sounds suspicious. However, I didn't hear him speak at the Commonwealth Club, so I can only go off his TED talk. He says the EV industry will grow 100x b

IANAL, but I absolutely believe there's the possibility to raise a copyright violation suit. There have been cases brought against Google in the past for caching webpages. This is why google/bing web crawlers abide by robots.txt.
