The one downside I've found (other than noise) running a super old supermicro at home is the power consumption is nowhere near as good as the modern hardware. But my server is _really_ old, some dual socket xeon thing I got super cheap

My understanding of stating this figure was to highlight that the cash to pay employees reasonably exists, its just being spent elsewhere...

I guess the principle would be that you just don't care. The cost savings of not designing a powertrain/gearbox, not manufacturing it, reduced moving parts needing maintenance, etc etc. The trade-off _might_ be worth it.

It would be interesting to see the numbers I guess. For one, the manufacturer is offloading that energy burden onto the owner, not themselves. IIRC A large portion of the carbon created by a car is during the manufacture, so if you're

Is there a reason not more popular to create hybrids that have no traditional powertrain? IT seems like it would be cost effective. i.e. the petrol engine effectively just runs a generator to the batteries. You don't need prop shafts&#

IIRC They have some type of nuclear power. Not like a reactor but something much simpler that generates heat from radioactive decay.

Sheffield Forgemasters? They are actually now directly govt owned as of 2020, with future investment for a new heavy forge.

Dunno about OP, but old CAT bulldozers used to have smaller engines to start the main engine, before starter tech improved, iirc they were called "Pony engines(motors)"

SAP? An alternative to this strategy might be to have your own software team that builds tools and processes for you to "work with" or "work around" your primary software without fully replacing it. As others have mentio

Shame Nvidia have somewhat abandoned the Shield, great device, but no software updates for years now with several unresolved bugs. There is a popular guide for downgrading to v8 somewhere online as that is/was one of the more stable ve

There are lots of very well established tiling window managers for linux, there likely would be no advantage in porting a windows one to linux, and it may even be somewhat of a fools errand given the specifics of what its doing; you may as

I suspect they also want to avoid monopoly regulation noises. "hey look, this competitor exists"

It was my understanding that these would still be built more or less like conventional nuclear power plants. You just stick a whole bunch of SMRs in one location. All the site prep work, concrete, electrical grid connections, steam generato

I think they cancelled it in 2023, but MS did release for a while an Excel template replacement for MS Money - I think it even had some advanced stuff like bank integration via plaid.

Its still gone up from the original price to £95 a year though, removing features now, such as ad-free video, doesn't come with a discount. In fact there is no option to totally opt out of video and pay less tha £95.

We've been working on getting the electron app up and running, you can download beta builds of it already, and I think it's mostly there. Yep - There is on-going work to get good mobile support on the web app too!
