As far as I can tell, the only US states that care about the software engineering distinction are Texas and Florida. And it's for legacy bureaucratic reasons more than anything. I'm not personally concerned about someone incorrect

NoMachine uses hardware h264 encoding. I can watch youtube remotely and barely notice the difference. It's commercial software with free personal use.

I do have purposeful meetings with customers, when the need arises, and I enjoy those. There are no recurring meetings or standups. It's heaven.

I really love technical sales. Management wasn't for me (hate meetings), and I get paid more.

I took the easy job. It made me a little anxious at first, like I was doing something wrong. Picking up some side work filled that hole. The side work can be paused at any time. It's pretty much ideal.

It was in the early 2000s outside of the valley. A coworker was basically held in indentured servitude by a family of a higher caste. They dropped him off at work every day, berating him the whole way there. We hired a lawyer, got all of hi

People who absolutely hate math are driving these bad ideas, thinly veiled as justice or some other high-minded nonsense. Many of them carefully plotted their way through college, doing as much as they can to avoid math. Of course the kids

I've gotten to the point where I wince at compliments because of the shit sandwich technique. When I get one, I know I'm dealing with a passive-aggressive person and limit my interactions from then on.

> Neonicotinoids have a half life of 5 years This is nonsense. When exposed to light, which most of it is, the half-life is 39 days. It may last 1 year in the soil. Any claim that makes farmers stupid or wasteful is immediately suspect.

I happened to have, by chance, practiced writing sort from scratch right before an interview where they asked me to do just that. Doing it correctly in just a few minutes gave me pretty high status. Higher than I deserve. The randomness cut

I learned years ago to cancel everything in writing, via post. It sounds anachronistic, but actually takes less time and stress. Companies don't mess with letter writers. There's a lot of legal precedent behind us.
