Yeah I am assuming OP doesn't realize that patches are sent to the Linux kernel through emails.

Traditionally you'd deploy a bunch of apps to one container (Tomcat, or whatever) and they'd all share the same JVM. I'm not sure if jars are shared in this way or not. I think OSGI was supposed to allow deploy apps to reuse

Honestly this sums up what I have been trying to articulate for a while now. I find people put too much stock in "what x uses" or "what is x written in?" That doesn't mean it's impossible to make bad decisions about what you use of course.

I tried out Circle CI... I have some feedback if you want. First the UI could use some work, but it was really awesome seeing it pull down a Flask app and knowing to activate venv and install pip. Also, not having an option to delete your a

> Probably doing socket programming in C is easier than in Java Actually... networked programming is really easy in Java. You are right though the state of a lot of java libs is hilarious! Smalltalk seems really cool but I've never had

I completely agree with all of the author's points, but my day job is still PHP and I actually don't hate it so much now. That being said, it's nice to be able to sit on the most version of PHP and use awesome frameworks like FuelPHP and La

I know C# is a great C styled language but calling PHP too verbose is a little... strange imo. When you say you "tried PHP" I'm assuming you didn't start with a framework of some sort? Writing straight PHP scripts will probably rot your bra

Good ole arch linux. At least you have a shot at current packages. As for Ubuntu, it's a sad state. Installing ruby-rvm and/or rubygems from the the repositories can break your whole system.

Yeah... I don't really understand what their issue is to be honest. It really is up to Skype if they want to release their protocol. You can't really force anyone into being open source. I actually disagree with their methods, its the same

I think vintage mode in sublime text 2 offers vim like keybindings as well. As for browsing for files using the keyboard, I'm a huge fan of Command-T. https://github.com/wincent/Command-T

Ubuntu is the best distro around... for what it's purpose is. Ubuntu isn't around to cater to power users, the whole idea behind it is shipping a distro thats so easy your grandma can install and use it.

Sorry, you are right, I did mean that /usr/bin/python is usually 2.7. For someone just starting out with python (on linux anyways) that means they are probably going to fire up that interpreter first. I was wondering myself actually if any

One of the issues is that almost every Linux distro is still shipping 2.7+ (and with good reason, there's a lot of code that won't run in 3.0 still). I think now that 2.7 is the last we will start to see a bit more migrate. Edit: I didn't m

Playstation 2 had it's own devkit that was C or C++ I believe. But yes, N64 games were written in assembler.

Actually the C++ STL is known for being pretty small... that also depends on if you even count the C stuff that C++ includes.

As a Canadian, the stuff that I see other people telling _me_ about my healthcare system makes me upset. As others have said, it's not illegal to be private in Canada. Everyone who seeks medical attention at a hospital is sent through triag

This is great, I've recently got back into using Vim and finding these cool little snippets greatly increases my productivity. I'm not very fluent in vimscript so a website like this is amazing. As an aside, I'm having some serious issues w

Any time I see someone complaining about how much effort it is to "just print a string to std out in java" it boggles my mind. Java was not really designed for ease of use in that way, clearly, and the syntax and vm itself heavily lends it

Frankly I'm offended that having a seperate /home partition is not the default on more linux installs. I Arch Linux for my last semester of school and didn't have any problems, I didn't find it unstable at all.

I don't like how foxit is distributed, I'm not a fan of any software that attempts to sneak toolbar installs with it. That aside foxit is way faster than Acrobat.

Wow this really hit home to me, I always struggled with math in highschool because things like formulas and shortcuts didn't sink in with me. I struggled to understand how to use them unless I could see the proof.
